You can stomp on Old Glory all you like but NOT on a Palestinian flag

We read:

"The College Republicans at San Francisco State University (SFSU) held an anti-Hamas rally on Wednesday at which at least one group member stepped on a Hamas flag, apparently leading offended students to call for the group's punishment.

Reaction to the rally has been fast and furious; according to the College Republicans' blog, a coalition of students offended by the rally will shortly be releasing a statement containing the following demands:

* Authorities must drop all charges pending against [the two counter-protestors arrested by police].

* The school must sanction/punish the College Republicans for throwing shoes at the Hamas flag.

* The groups must organize a forum to "educate" students about what forms of speech are not acceptable according to the offended parties, specifically the always ambiguous "hate speech."

While those calling for the College Republicans' punishment may not have learned their lesson, we trust that the SFSU administration has, and that no student will face any disciplinary action -or even investigation -for desecrating a flag in an act of political protest.

Cloth Wipes Replace Toilet Paper

Apparently, devout followers of Earth Mother Gaia feel guilty when using toilet paper so a substitute product has been created which is made of cloth.

Simply called cloth wipes, they replace toilet paper, are more comfortable for delicate body parts, and they can be used wet.

According to the manufacturer's website, cloth toilet wipes are available in a variety of designs and colors for $11 a dozen. The company also sells a wet bag to store used wipes with assurance that there is no odor.

Lately, with all the media attention, there've been a lot of naysayers talking about the stench. I can honestly say, our wipes don't stink. They don't go into a sealed container. They go into a little (lidded) garbage can in the bathroom. Many people use a wet bag, as pictured below. There is no odor.

The company also provides guidance on the use of cloth toilet wipes.

Shake, scrape, swish, or squirt off anything you don't want in your laundry, and then toss the wipe into the pail or container. (Personally speaking, we just wipe and toss in the pail. Our wipes have minimal staining.)

The wipes also come in special cloth types for $20 a dozen. These include premium flannel/velour, hemp terrycloth and cotton fleece sherpa cloth.

The Man Who Loved the Dead

(Cincinnati, Ohio) A 55-year-old former night attendant at the Hamilton County morgue, Kenneth Douglas, is currently serving a prison sentence for abusing the corpse of a nearly beheaded 19-year-old female murder victim.

Now he has been indicted on two more counts of abuse of a corpse after his semen was found in the bodies of two women killed in 1991.

According to Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters,

"This guy's just a pig. I can't explain why someone would do something like this. ... This is off-the-charts weird." [...]

Deters said he was stunned by so many aspects of the case: sex with a corpse, sex with violently mutilated or damaged bodies, sex with dozens of bodies.

"Frankly, it's frightening. His numbers when he's (talked to authorities) go from one to three or four to 'a lot' to maybe over a hundred," Deters said, quoting Douglas.

"I think it's fair to speculate that he's been doing this all the time, when he's able and had the opportunity."

Douglas was initially caught when his DNA in a database was matched with semen found in a corpse.

Viagra Allegedly Causes Death

(Moscow, Russia) A man has to know his limitations.

A SEX-MAD Russian died after guzzling a bottle of Viagra pills to keep him going for a 12-hour orgy with two women pals.

The women had bet mechanic Sergey Tuganov £3000 that he wouldn’t be able to satisfy them both non-stop for the half-day sex marathon.

But minutes after winning the wager, the randy 28-year-old dropped dead with a heart attack, revealed Moscow police.

Tipster Charley Nestor contends that Sergey's likely consumption of copious amounts of vodka, in addition to the Viagra, led to his demise. It's possible.

In any event, I would speculate that the mortician may experience difficulty in putting Sergey's smile into a coffin. Too edgy? Okay, I apologize.

Seriously, though, I'm unconvinced by the whole story. For one thing, it appears to come from only one source and the information provided is sketchy at best. Also, the story too quickly concludes that the Viagra and sex caused the death. I believe more investigation is warranted before making that assertion.

Furthermore, the story refers to Sergey as a "sex-mad Russian" because he wanted to have sex with two women for 12 hours. Based on that criteria, I'd wager that I could identify several hundred sex-mad Russians in my local northeast Ohio area and that's just in the high schools. I'd also wager that none have ever been to Russia.

As I recall, the Marxist game plan is to (1) take over the means of production, then (2) restrict free speech and disarm the population, and then (3) purge society of those who shun re-education.

Airline Toilet Charge

This is funny.

Ryanair’s proposal to introduce a £1 toilet charge is not only legal; it is being taken seriously by pilots.

The airline’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, announced this morning that the carrier is looking into fitting coin slots to the toilet doors of its aircraft. Passengers would have to pay £1 to use the loo.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, which regulates the aviation industry in the UK, Ryanair would not be breaking the law by introducing the charge.

A spokesman told Times Online: “The situation is that there is no legal requirement for an aircraft to have a toilet onboard, so if an airline does have a toilet they can charge to use it.

Imagine for a moment that you have to go and you've spent all your money on the airline ticket. What do you do?

One incident of a passenger dropping a loaf in the aisle would be enough to encourage the airline executives to rethink this ludicrous idea.

Patriot's quarterback Tom Brady reportedly tied the knot with supermodel Gisele Bundchen in a ceremony in Santa Monica yesterday.

I don't know why this is news. When I was in elementary school, I read a book about the football hero and the supermodel and when I was in the service, I saw a smut movie about the football hero and the supermodel.

This story is more of a cliché than news.

Muslims Protest Israel at British Universities

(London, England) A report filed today indicates that students have been conducting numerous protest sit-ins at universities throughout the United Kingdom calling for condemnation of Israel and support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

A record number of university sit-ins last deployed to challenge the South African apartheid were used in protest over the Gaza siege.

Hundreds of students in over twenty five universities occupied theatre rooms across the country in January and February.

Student demands went beyond calls for condemnation of Israel with all groups asking their universities to severe ties with Israeli academia, institutions, arms companies and calls for universities to offer Palestinians scholarships and other education assistance.

No single body controlled the protests that stretched the width and breadth of the country but with help of blogs providing updates the number of universities taking part steadily grew.

Some of the schools opted to appease the protesters, others rousted them out. Nevertheless, the reported nationwide effort is considered to be a success in igniting stronger anti-Israel sentiment.

Marion Barry - Image of Impropriety

(Washington, D.C.) Former D.C. Mayor and present Councilman Marion Barry is reportedly doing well after a kidney transplant and is scheduled to be released from Howard University Hospital today.

Although the perennial D.C. politician appears to be recovering from health problems, he continues to have legal problems for not filing tax returns.

After federal prosecutors asked a judge to put Barry in jail for failure to file his 2007 taxes on time, the former mayor said his medical condition distracted him from his taxpayer duties. Barry has been ordered to appear in court April 2 on his repeated delinquency filing his income taxes.

In a motion filed in federal court, prosecutors said the former mayor didn't file his taxes in 2007, violating his probation for previous tax offenses. It was the eighth time in nine years he failed to file on time.

Barry was given three years of probation in 2006 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges for failing to file his tax returns from 1999 to 2004.

As I recall, Marion Barry had previous difficulties when he was mayor after being caught on videotape using crack cocaine. After he was released from jail, he was elected to the city council. I suggest that Mr. Barry could easily be voted as the poster boy for "beyond the appearance of impropriety."

By the way, I haven't found any reporting of the Marion Barry story which states that he is a Democrat.

Arkansas Teacher Accused of Sex, Drug Offenses

(Concord, Arkansas) A 25-year-old teacher formerly at Concord High School, Crystal Shipman, has reportedly admitted to allegations that she supplied drugs to one student and had sex with another, a 17-year-old male.

Detective Kim Bettis with the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Department said a complaint was filed January 30 by the Concord School District with Detective Alan Roberson alleging Crystal Shipman, 25, gave an 18-year-old male student drugs and engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male.

“An affidavit for a warrant for her arrest has been sent to the prosecuting attorney,” said Bettis.

Shipman faces charges of first-degree sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The Leftist version of free speech prevails in Israel too

We read:

"Freedom of speech in Israel just took another bullet. The Leftist First Amendment, under which anti-Israel leftists and Arabs are entitled to the protection of freedom of speech for everything they say but no one else is, made a comeback this week. The Israeli dual court system also struck back.

Neria Ofan was convicted this week of racism by a Jerusalem Magistrate's Court. He was convicted of driving with an insensitive bumper sticker on his car. This is not a spoof. It really happened. Ofan's felony? Ofan, who lives in the West Bank, had a bumper sticker on his car that reads, "Where there are No Arabs, there is No Terror." That, fatwa-ed the court's judge Shulamit Dotan, constitutes racism. Another Jew was similar convicted in criminal court six months back for wearing a Tee shirt containing the same slogan.

Now what does NOT constitute racism or incitement in post-democratic Israel? Arab students chanting "Death to the Jews" does not. Waving PLO and Hamas banners on campuses does not. We know that merely calling for Jews to be exterminated and for Israel to be annihilated also does not.

Dotan was one of the judges who had earlier "convicted" Moshe Feiglin of "sedition" because he had blocked a traffic intersection in the 1990s with a group of protesters against Oslo. Blocking traffic intersections for other things, such as for the demands of the Histadrut or when students want lower tuition, is democratic and permitted.

As for that slogan, "Where there are no Arabs, there is no Terror," it is very close to being an empirically verifiable statement, although one can, I suppose, find terror here and there in places where there are no Arabs, like in Sri Lanka. But racism? I mean, if the court had accused the driver of perpetrating a slight empirical exaggeration, perhaps it might have a case.

California Teacher Arrested at School

(Taft, California) A 45-year-old teacher at Maricopa Elementary School, Dori Rochelle Keigley, was hauled out of class yesterday for allegedly being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The school was locked down briefly while the teacher was arrested. [...]

Kern County sheriff’s deputies were called to the school at 1:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon when school officials noticed Dori Rochelle Keigley, 45, “displaying odd behavior,” Sgt. Martin Downs said.

When Downs and two other deputies arrived, Keigley was still in the classroom with 17-second grade students.

After Keigley was found to be under the influence of a central nervous system depressant, she was arrested. She has been charged with being under the influence and 17 counts of child endangerment.

Keigley was booked into custody at the Sheriff's Central Receiving Facility.

Pair Pinched for Child Sex Abuse

(Washington County, New York) Following extradition, a 49-year-old Worcester, MA, woman, Linda St. Germain, was placed in custody at the Washington County Jail for alleged child sex abuse in August 2008.

St. Germain faces charges of first-degree sexual abuse, use of a child in a sexual performance and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to state police investigators, Linda St. Germain engaged in an online chat last September with an Easton, NY, man, Ralph Gillis, in which Gillis sexually abused a child and broadcast it to St. Germain via webcam.

St. Germain allegedly encouraged Gillis while he committed the abuse and enaged in sexually explicit chats with him, said police.

Sixty-eight-year-old Gillis faces charges of sexual abuse in the first degree and use of a child in a sexual performance. The abuse by Gillis and the on-line webcam participation of St. Germain involved the fondling of a girl less than five years old.

State Police and the FBI continue to investigate.

Nurses Fired Over Patient Pics

(Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) Two nurses have been fired from the Mercy Walworth Medical Center for allegedly taking pictures of a patient and posting them on a Facebook page. Authorities launched an investigation last week after an anonymous tip.

"There were two nurses that independently took a picture each of an X-ray of a patient," Walworth County Undersheriff Kurt Picknell said.

The patient was admitted to the emergency room with an object lodged in his rectum. Police said the nurse explained she and a co-worker snapped photos when they learned it was a sex device.

Police said discussion about the incident was posted on her Facebook page, but they haven't found anyone who actually saw the pictures.

The nurse removed her Facebook page from the Internet last week. Without more, Picknell said this conduct does not appear to violate any state laws. He has referred the case to the FBI.

Russia Pays for Babies

"Octomom! Listen up!"

(Moscow, Russia) Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that paying for babies is effective in easing demographic problems.

‘There has been a positive effect,’ Putin told an audience of European health and social policy officials, noting that 1.7 million babies were born in Russia in 2008, a seven percent increase from the year before.

‘This was partly the result of measures to stimulate the birthrate that were undertaken in recent years, such as substantial increases in family benefits and the introduction of special payments for women who give birth to two or more children,’ he said.

Putin also noted that ‘practically all the countries of Europe are dealing with demographic problems,’ speaking at a conference organised by the Council of Europe.

The going rate is 250,000 rubles ($7,000) per child.

Iranian Nuke Plant in Testing Phase

(Bushehr, Iran) Located on the coast across the Persian Gulf from Kuwait, Iran's first nuclear power plant began hot functional testing yesterday.

The 1,000-megawatt facility, built with Russian assistance under a $1 billion contract, is being tested without nuclear fuel. A dummy core is placed in the reactor while the primary system and all supporting systems are made operational.

Vice President Gholam Reza Aghazadeh, who heads the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said the test was going well and engineers told him that they expected no problems in the test run.

"Today was one of the most important days for the Iranian nation," Aghazadeh told reporters. "We are approaching full exploitation of this plant."

Remarking in disagreement, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said:

"This should be understood as very bad news for the whole of the international community."

At least a couple months of testing will be required before nuclear fuel can be placed in the reactor.

Ohio Mom Accused of Sex with Boy

(Cincinnati, Ohio) A 31-year-old local mom, Kelly Kidwell, faces arraignment today for allegedly engaging in sex with a 13-year-old boy. According to prosecutors, Kidwell and the boy had sex on New Year's Day.

Kidwell faces a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Notably, Kidwell appeared in court last month for allegedly shoplifting merchandise at a Sears store. According to store security, Kidwell was caught with her sister Karen Lienesch putting clothing on their children and then attempting to leave the store without paying.

Why do so many people hate Gail Trimble?

Britain has a TV quiz show called "University Challenge", in which teams from various universities compete against each other to answer some very obscure questions. The team from Oxford's Corpus Christi college has just won. They won because one member of their team, Gail Trimble, seemed to know just about everything. As a much-published academic, I think I have some claim to being bright and knowing a lot but I would not have been able to answer a single one of the questions that Miss Trimble answered even before the question was finished.

Knowledge and intelligence are not the same but her prodigious knowledge is a byproduct of stratospheric IQ. She was reading at age one. And early language mastery is one of the best indices of IQ. Confirming the disjunction between knowledge and IQ, however, Miss Trimble failed utterly at answering "Pub Quiz" questions about film stars, TV shows and the like. She knows as little about popular entertainment as she knows a lot about academic things.

Since it is high IQ people who are responsible for the many scientific and technical advancements that have made our lives so much easier than the "nasty, brutish and short" lives of our ancestors, one would think that high IQ people would always be celebrated and admired. And they do often get recognition of various sorts, the Swedish (as distinct from the Norwegian) Nobel prizes, for instance. But I guess it will be no surprise that high IQ people also attract dislike and hatred. Envy is a very common human trait and it is not only higher incomes that are envied but many other things as well. And Miss Trimble has certainly attracted lots of dislike and abuse as a result of her abilities. See the insert below.



And that ties in with politics. The nonsensical and incoherent claim that underlies so much Leftist discourse is "all men are equal". And that is the envier's gospel. It makes not a scrap of sense and shows no contact with reality but it is something that enviers resort to as a way of soothing their envious feelings. They deny the very differences that give them so much heartburn. "Denial" was long ago indentified by Freud as a maladaptive psychological defence mechanism and "All men are equal" is a prize example of that. Whatever one thinks of his theories, Freud was undoubtedly an acute observer of people and very few psychologists today would doubt the maladaptive nature of denial as described by Freud.

So Gail Trimble by her very existence offends Leftists. Her existence pushes down their throats the falsity of their central dogma. Reality is SUCH a problem for Leftists! And because their central dogma is not rational, they can only respond to inconvenient reality by hatred and abuse. Conservative bloggers know from their email and the comments that they get on their blogs how most Leftists respond to any presentation of facts that are inconvenient to them. A rational comment backed up by facts is very rare. It is almost all assertion and abuse. If you are very lucky you may get selective attention to the facts but that is all.

Envy has always been with us and the envier's gospel has therefore had many outings throughout history. One thinks of the "Levellers" of Cromwell's day, for instance. And it also appears in the American Declaration of Independence, of course. There were enviers among the American revolutionaries too. But the declaration was of course a compromise document and Jefferson inserted into the envier's creed the word "created" ("all men are created equal"), which removed it from everyday reality and made it clear that the dogma was a matter of faith, not fact.

I think it must be because of that one word "created" in the Declaration that some Christians claim that God suffers from poor sight. They say "all men are equal in the sight of God". As the Leftist FDR said in his January 6, 1942 State of the Union address: "We are fighting, as our fathers have fought, to uphold the doctrine that all men are equal in the sight of God."

That is, however, very poor theology. The Bible makes it clear that God treats saints and sinners very differently. Homosexuals are accursed and condemned to death, for instance (Romans chapter 1). All men are NOT equal in God's eyes. I have seen Galatians 3:28 quoted in support of the equality myth but that text quite clearly refers to committed Christians, not to all men.

(Kuwait/Saudi Arabia Border) On Monday, a Saudi man was arrested while trying to smuggle three teenage girls into the kingdom. The man had purchased the girls from their father.

According to sources, the security officers assigned at Riqqae Checkpoint in Saudi Arabia questioned a Saudi national, after noticing his suspicious behavior while trying to cross the border, along with three teenage Bedouin girls.

Initial investigations revealed the suspect paid 9,000 Saudi riyals to the girls’ father, so he can take the girls to Saudi Arabia.

According to the latest exchange rate, SR9,000 = $2,400. Therefore, the market price for a Bedouin teenage girl is $800.

Gay Muslim Film, "A Jihad for Love"

(Ithaca, New York) A feature documentary about homosexual Muslims, A Jihad for Love, will be shown at Ithaca College at 7 PM on March 2nd. The screening is free and open to the public.

The film was produced and directed by a gay Muslim, Parvez Sharma, with footage taken in 12 countries in nine languages. A Jihad for Love has reportedly won numerous international honors.

The showing is sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services as part of the Out of the Closet and Onto the Screen Series.

The 81-minute A Jihad for Love was released in 2007 and has been shown in a number of countries and in cities throughout the U.S. Based upon reported responses, I would guess that it doesn't insult Islam as much as cartoons.

Arkansas Teacher Gets No Jail for Sex Crime - Updated

(Texarkana, Arkansas) Yesterday, 32-year-old former Arkansas High School teacher Brenda Shelene “Shelly” Fant pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault and was sentenced to six years of probation.

Judge Jim Hudson of the 8th Judicial District imposed no jail time for Fant because she had no prior criminal record. However, she was assessed a $1,000 fine and must register as a sex offender.

The status of Fant's teaching credentials is unknown.

Arkansas Teacher Accused of Sex with Boy

(Texarkana, Arkansas) A 31-year-old teacher at Arkansas High School, Brenda Fant, was arrested this week for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a 17-year-old male student.

The alleged sex reportedly occurred at a location not on school property. Fant faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault.

She was booked into custody at the Bi-State Jail. No information on bond has been reported.

A glance at the Arkansas High website indicates that Fant has been scrubbed from the faculty. It's assumed that she has been placed on suspension.

Texas Woman Accused of Sex with Boy

(Morgan's Point Resort, Texas) A 22-year-old Belton woman, Simeon Pruett, is accused of engaging in sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Pruett's intimate relationship with the boy reportedly began in early January and resulted in several sexual episodes.

According to Morgan's Point Resort Police Chief Randy Dixon, Pruett is an acquaintance of the boy's family and authorities were alerted due to a family dispute.

NC Woman Indicted for Naughtiness with Boy

(Raleigh, North Carolina) A 36-year-old local woman, Trecia Annette Hodge, has been indicted on one count of taking indecent liberties with a 9-year-old boy. Hodge reportedly claimed she was trying to give the boy some sex education.

Investigators say the 9-year-old boy told them Hodge asked him to take pictures of her vagina to teach him about sex.

Hodge originally told police the boy just saw the photos on her phone, but later said he walked in on her as she was taking pictures of herself.

After her arrest earlier this month, Hodge was booked into custody and later released on $15,000 bond.

Mexican Officials Live in Texas

(El Paso, Texas) In September 2008, it was announced that the Director of the Chihuahua (Mexico) State Police, Saul Hernandez, actually resided in El Paso and crossed the border daily to carry out his duties in Ciudad Juárez. Hernandez not only didn't live in his jurisdiction, he didn't even live in his own country. The situation was allowed to exist for "reasons of security."

Along the same lines, it's now reported that the mayor of Juárez, Jose Reyes Ferriz, has moved his entire family to El Paso for safety reasons.

"We received information that the Juárez mayor lives in El Paso, and that possibly they were going to come to El Paso to get him," Carrillo said [El Paso Police Detective Carlos Carrillo].

"He has not asked us for our help, but it's our duty to protect any resident of our city who may be under threat."

Juárez police said written threats against Reyes Ferriz and his family were left in different parts of Juárez after the police chief, Roberto Orduña Cruz, resigned Friday. The threats were written on the kind of banners and posters that the Juárez drug cartel has used to send messages to police and others.

Curiously, since officials must head for the hills when elected or appointed, it's easy to contend that the outlaws are actually governing the city of Juárez and the State of Chihuahua. Meanwhile, there's no reason to assume that the outlaws will be deterred by an international border.

California Teacher Arrested for Kidnapping, Child Endangerment

(Lake Elsinore, California) On February 10, a 29-year-old second-grade teacher at Park Avenue Elementary School, Graciela Bustamante, was arrested for allegedly engaging in a lewd act with a 14- or 15-year-old child. Bustamante was booked into custody and released on bail two days later.

Last Friday, a week after her release, Bustamante persuaded a 15-year-old girl to run away with her. The Lake Elsinore Police Department launched a search and later requested assistance from the FBI. Federal agents found Bustamante crouched on the floor of the backseat of her parked car in Riverside.

Bustamante was arrested.

Bustamante told officers she had dropped the girl off at a nearby gas station, the news release said. The Riverside Police Department responded and found the girl at the gas station unharmed. She was taken home.

Bustamante was then booked into custody at the Southwest Detention Center for alleged kidnapping and child endangerment.

Taxpayer-fed fat cats

Last year, crippling pension and benefits costs caused the city of Vallejo, California to declare bankruptcy. In this year of compounded economic crisis, more towns and cities may follow Vallejo's lead, pushed over the edge by an accounting and financial-reporting provision known as GASB (pronounced "gaz-bee") 45. "It's a perfect storm of pension liabilities hitting us at a time when the economy is tanking and revenues are tanking," says David Edwards, the senior policy advisor to Atlanta's mayor. "It's unprecedented."

Localities that have already complied with GASB 45 have had to disclose the compromising long-term costs of lifetime health care and other retiree benefits. In New York City, which began compliance in 2007, the accounting measure has placed a new $63 billion liability on the books. Atlanta's pension- and benefit-related expenses exploded from $44.5 million in 2005 to $118 million today, even while the city cut its personnel headcount by 8.6 percent. In Vallejo's case, the city's declaration of bankruptcy last May was due to the fact that it was spending 74 percent of its $80 million general-fund budget on public-sector salaries and benefits. Police captains were entitled to receive $306,000 annually in pay and benefits, while 21 firefighters earned more than $200,000 a year, including overtime. After five years on the job, all were entitled to lifetime health benefits.

The culprit, of course, isn't GASB 45 itself but the ugly reality that it exposes. There are 22.5 million public-sector employees in the United States. The average state and local government employee now makes 46 percent more in combined salary and benefits than his private-sector counterpart does, according to the Employee Benefit Research Institute-including 128 percent more on health care and 162 percent more on retirement benefits. Four out of five public-sector workers have lifetime pensions. Paying for such lavish treatment is difficult; in 2007, Credit Suisse estimated that state and local governments owed more than $1.5 trillion in unfunded health-care and non-pension benefits. Further, the market meltdown has erased $1 trillion from municipal pension funds, according to Boston College's Center for Retirement Research.

New York City now spends an average of $107,000 for each of its 281,000 current employees-a whopping 63 percent increase since 2000. At the same time, its direct pension expenses each year have increased from $615 million to $5.6 billion. And New York isn't alone. Forty states estimate that their liabilities for public-sector health-care and other benefits exceed $400 billion-more than their entire public debt, according to Standard and Poor's. New Jersey has dug a particularly deep hole for itself. Its state pension fund lost half its value in 2008 but pays out $5.2 billion each year in benefits. "The state of New Jersey is insolvent," writes bond analyst Mike Shedlock. "Bankrupt might be a better word."

Topless Coffee Shop Opens in Maine

(Vassalboro, Maine) The signs at the entrance to the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop read "Over 18 only" and "No cameras, no touching, cash only.” It's assumed that lap dances are also prohibited.

In the midst of local complaints and objections, owner Donald Crabtree opened the shop for business yesterday.

A small sign hung out front the log-cabin-looking shop, listing the hours: 6 a.m.-6 p.m. The outside windows were blocked with promotional posters for New England Coffee. [...]

Inside, two men sip coffee at their booth; the rest of the tables are empty. Nearby are three topless women and one topless man. Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper” plays on the speakers.

Brothers Dick and Rene Brochu of Augusta, ages 60 and 59, said they decided to stop by after hearing about the shop from friends.

"I really hope it works," Dick Brochu said. "It's different. I kind of like it. If you don't like it, I say don't come in, stay away."

Topless waitress Susie Wiley, 23, of Farmington, said she went for the job because it’s “something different” and that she’s worked in coffee shops since she was a teenager.

Asked whether the shop is degrading to women, Wiley said, “No, I love it. I find it very empowering, not degrading.”

The price of a cup of coffee hasn't been reported but if Starbucks can charge five dollars for a frappo-choco-foamo-creamoccini, Grand View coffee with free funbags should be worth a sawbuck.

Teacher's Wife Attacks Husband's Suspected Mistress

(Pasadena, California) It appears that fraternization within the faculty ranks is a point of dispute.

The wife of a John Muir High School teacher was arrested after she allegedly confronted a female teacher inside a classroom at the campus, police said Tuesday.

Leta Carruthers, 29, of Altadena went to Muir at around 11:30 a.m. Monday to confront the teacher, who she suspected of having a relationship with her husband, Pasadena Police Department Lt. Phlunte Riddle said.

"The female teacher denied, and the suspect threatened her, and then a fight ensued," Riddle said.

Officers arrested Carruthers on suspicion of making criminal threats and battery.

She probably didn't have a hall pass either.

Study: What Women Want

A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire.

No further studies are expected.

Cigars for Service

(Lehigh Acres, Florida) During the last six months, a nonprofit organization, Cigars for Service, has sent more than 7,000 cigars to members of the armed services on overseas assignments.


According to Cigars for Service leader Chuck Ley, a cigar is a sign of peace and camaraderie.

Oddly, I haven't heard of any outrage from the anti-smoking crowd.

New Mexico Babysitter Gets Prison for Child Sex - Updated

(Las Cruces, New Mexico) Twenty-six-year-old babysitter, Annette Martinez, pleaded no contest to 20 counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor.

As a result, Martinez was sentenced to nine years in prison (six suspended) by 3rd Judicial District Judge Stephen Bridgforth. The judge also gave Martinez credit for seven months already locked up.

Martinez addressed Bridgforth, apologizing for the crimes.

"There is no excuse for what I've done; I want to take responsibility and ask for another chance," she said.

But Heather Chavez, senior trial attorney for the 3rd Judicial District Attorney's office, said Martinez didn't seem to be remorseful during a psychological evaluation. Chavez acknowledged Martinez had a difficult past in which she suffered abuse, but said Martinez also showed, through certain actions in committing the crimes, that she was aware her behavior was wrong.

Judge Bridgforth was quite lenient in his sentencing of Martinez. The DA's office and the victim's family wanted the maximum -- 30 years in prison. Instead, she gets two years and five months.

For an inexact comparison, Judge Bridgforth sentenced a man, 44-year-old Craig Pieri, to 90 years in prison for sexually abusing a 9-year-old female relative. Disregarding the specifics of each case, one might contend that Judge Bridgforth considers male sex offenders more worthy of harsh punishment than female sex offenders.

Babysitter Accused of Sex with Boy, 14

(Las Cruces, New Mexico) A 25-year-old babysitter, Annette Martinez, was arrested this morning for allegedly engaging in sex with a 14-year-old boy.

Martinez has been charged with one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a fourth-degree felony.

Detectives learned Martinez had been baby-sitting the victim and his two siblings since June 1. The woman allegedly told detective she engaged in sexual relations with the boy since July 8 and may now be pregnant.

More charges against Martinez are pending, police said.

Martinez was booked into custody at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.

Canada Plans Green Audits of Homes

(Toronto, Canada) The plan to require pricey "energy audits" is currently for homesellers' information only. They won't be required to do anything unless it's their desire. Logically, though, how long will it take before energy auditors become energy enforcers?

Ontario residents won't be able to sell their houses or condos without first getting a home energy audit -- which now costs about $300 -- under the proposed new Green Energy Act.

That's one of several measures in the legislation unveiled by Energy Minister George Smitherman to boost incentives for electricity conservation and encourage renewable sources of energy.

It's drip, drip, drip as environmentalism morphs into Marxist utopianism.

University Free Speech Scandal

Simply put, this appears to be a naked effort to suppress dissenting opinions.

A Speaking Event to be held at Western Michigan University on March 10th 2009, which includes two former terrorists Walid Shoebat and Kamal Saleem who speak regularly on University campuses about the threat of Islamic terrorism, has been threatened with cancellation due to the pulling of grants, which were allocated by the University. [...]

The grant of $8311 was passed 4 to 1 by the appropriations committee of the WSA (student activities administration of Western Michigan University). The grant approval was also sent in writing and signed by the finance director of the WSA. On Thursday evening Feb 19, the organizers of the event on campus received an email from the WSA revoking the grant because of a technicality.

Based on the letter signed by the WSA committee of appropriations by default the University appears to be deliberately attempting to stifle the free speech both organizers - The International Conservatives, and the speakers.

Unfortunately, the suppression of dissent on college campuses has become common.

Ahenakew found not guilty. A Canadian Indian can utter the most vile antisemitic rants to a reporter but that is OK. It is not what you say but what group you belong to in Canada. Forget any idea of equal justice for all. There is plenty of bigotry in Canada: official bigotry in favor of selected minorities.

"Just minutes earlier, a Saskatchewan judge had found Mr. Ahenakew not guilty of willfully promoting hatred, even as he scolded him for "revolting" comments. In court Monday, Mr. Ahenakew, 75, looked like a man at prayer. Freshly buzz-cut, he crossed his arms and closed his eyes as the judge read a 19-page decision. He didn't flinch when the judge used "disgusting" and "inhumane" to describe the former native leader's comments on December 13, 2002.

On that day, Mr. Ahenakew capped off a keynote speech to a native health conference with an incoherent stream of slurs against "goddamn immigrants." During the public speech, he alleged that Jews started the Second World War. Afterwards, a Saskatoon Star-Phoenix reporter pressed Mr. Ahenakew about the remarks, asking how he could say the Holocaust was justified. "How do you get rid of a disease like that, that's going to take over, that's going to dominate?" Mr. Ahenakew responded. He went on to say the world would "be owned by the Jews right now" if Hitler had not "cleaned up a hell of a lot of things."

A 2005 trial found him guilty of willfully promoting hatred and levied a $1,000 fine. The decision was overturned 11 months later and a new trial ordered. During the retrial last fall, Mr. Ahenakew insisted he did not "hate Jews but I hate what they do."

While the judge Monday called Mr. Ahenakew's initial comments "revolting, disgusting and untrue," he did not find that the former chief ever intended to espouse those views publicly. [Giving a speech at a conference and answering questions from a reporter is not "public"? What a crock!]

Pennsylvania Woman Gets Prison in Child Sex Case - Updated

(York County, Pennsylvania) Yesterday, Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas H. Kelley sentenced 39-year-old Patricia Gamber to serve 9 to 23 months in the York County Prison.

Gamber did not speak in court Monday but her attorney, Katrina Luedtke, said her client is "extremely sorry for what happened." Following her arrest, Gamber had told police she was going through a divorce and "didn't know what she was doing," according to court documents.

Luedtke told Kelley that Gamber had sought psychiatric treatment after her arrest "and is doing well."

Gamber, of Westminster, pleaded guilty twice to the charges. In August, Kelley rejected her negotiated plea agreement which called for three to six months in county prison.

She earlier was rejected for acceptance into Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition, a probationary program, by District Attorney Stan Rebert.

Kelley accepted her second guilty plea, which carried only an agreement that she would receive a county sentence rather than a state prison term, in January.

In addition to her prison term, Gamber was also fined $100. In an unusual concession, Judge Kelley said Gamber would be allowed work release privileges while in prison. Typically, individuals convicted of sex offenses are not granted work release.

Pennsylvania Woman Guilty in Child Sex Case

(York County, Pennsylvania) in December 2007, a Maryland woman, Patricia J. Gamber, was caught in flagrante delicto having sex with a 15-year-old boy at 2AM in the morning.

Police found the two without clothes in the rear hatch area of Gamber's Jeep. Gamber reportedly admitted to the sex. She was charged with statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor and trespassing.

Reportedly, Gamber told police that she was going through a divorce and "didn't know what she was doing."

In August 2008, Gamber pleaded guilty in accordance with an agreement with the prosecution which would have capped her jail sentence at three months. Common Pleas Court Judge Thomas H. Kelley rejected the plea deal.

Yesterday, 39-year-old Patricia Gamber returned to court and entered a guilty plea to statutory sexual assault, indecent assault on a person under 16, corruption of minors and defiant trespass. The agreement limits her sentence to the statutory maximum -- 10 years in the state prison.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 23.

Illinois Teacher Accused of Sex with At-Risk Youth

(Chicago, Illinois) A 29-year-old teacher at Lawrence Hall Youth Services for at-risk youth, Linda Pithyou, was arrested last Friday for allegedly engaging in sex with one of her 15-year-old male students.

According to Andy Conklin of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the alleged sex reportedly occurred in Pithyou's car.

Pithyou, of the 3700 block of West Devon Avenue, met with the student multiple times, also drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana together, Conklin said.

During more than one encounter, he added, the woman's 16-month old baby was in the vehicle.

Pithyou was booked into custody with bail set at $110,000. She has been dismissed from her position with Lawrence Hill Youth Services.

1,000 Mexican Drug-Related Murders in 51 Days

(Mexico City) Statistics indicate that one thousand drug-related execution-style murders have occurred in Mexico since the start of the year -- 51 days.

In an intense roller coaster of events in the war against organized crime, yesterday the assassinations linked to narcotraffic surpassed 1,000. According to the count made by El Universal, so far in the year there have been 1,003 violent murders related to narcotraffic, which averages out to 19 per day.

Last year, the 1,000 mark was registered on April 22 and the year before, after mid-year. Half of the nation’s assassinations happened in the state of Chihuahua.

Coming soon to a border state near you, eh? Oddly, the level of violence in Mexico has been largely shoved under the carpet by the mainstream media.

New York Woman Accused of Raping Boy

(Lowville, New York) A 25-year-old local woman, Julie A. Greene, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 15-year-old boy. Greene faces charges of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

The alleged sex reportedly occurred in her apartment in the Village of Lowville and at a residence in the Town of Watson. It's currently unknown how authorities were alerted.

Greene has a court appearance scheduled for tomorrow in the Town of Watson Court.

Accused Animal Rights Extremists Arrested

(Santa Cruz, California) In August 2008, animal rights terrorists firebombed the home of a University of California-Santa Cruz molecular biologist, forcing him, his wife and their two young children to flee down a fire escape. At the same time, another firebomb destroyed the car of a different researcher.

Last week, federal agents arrested four animal rights extremists for allegedly planting and detonating the firebombs. Nathan Pope, 26, Adriana Stumpo, 23, Joseph Buddenberg, 25, and Maryam Khajavi, 20, are expected to be charged under the federal Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, which carries a penalty of up to five years in federal prison for each violation.

"BT has suspended 30 of its call centre staff after they were caught forwarding an email joke poking fun at the Irish. Bosses at the telecoms firm did not see the funny side of the story, which involves four Irishmen, and an investigation is under way.

But the probe was today branded a waste of time and money, and a cynical ploy to axe staff during the recession. One worker said yesterday: 'Either BT have no sense of humour whatsoever or the bosses are deliberately trying to get shot of people without having to pay any redundancy money.

'The joke was sent around the office as a bit of fun. Everyone is worried about their jobs but we all try and cheer each other up.

New York Mom Accused of Sending Child to Wrong School

(Rochester, New York) A 31-year-old mother, Michelle Aponte, pleaded not guilty last Thursday to charges that she sent her daughter illegally to an out-of-district school.

Aponte’s daughter legally attended East Irondequoit school Laurelton Pardee from 2005 to 2007, but when Aponte moved to Rochester in 2007, she filed paperwork that falsely claimed her daughter lived with a friend in Irondequoit for the 2007-2008 school year.

Aponte faces two charges, making a punishable false written statement and filing a false instrument. She has a court appearance scheduled for March 12.

It's crazy, but I think Aponte would have been okay with the school system if she had listed herself and family as illegal aliens from Elbownia or if she had said she was homeless.

Kind of ironic, eh? We've got millions of people illegally in the U.S. sending their kids to schools with impunity while we're prosecuting actual citizens for having kids in the wrong schools.

Missouri Woman Accused of Buying Baby

(Clinton, Missouri) A 36-year-old local woman, Denise Novotny, faces a child abduction charge in Wisconsin for allegedly buying a baby in December 2004. A criminal complaint was filed in Washington County, Wisconsin, last Thursday.

Just before Christmas 2004, Angel and David Schmidt of Kewaskum sold their daughter to Novotny for $6,000.

Novotny told the Schmidts to disguise the crime by signing a surrogate birth contract with Novotny and her husband, Scott, the complaint alleges.

In the interim, Denise Novotny has not officially adopted the child or filed a birth certificate in Wisconsin, Washington County Assistant District Attorney Peter Cannon said.

The child was born at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford. The Hartford Police Department this month requested criminal charges against Novotny.

"Our primary interest is the welfare of the child," Cannon said.

He would not comment on the goals of the district attorney's office in the case. At this time, however, the office is not seeking the return of the child to Wisconsin, Cannon said.

The Schmidts stated that they have no interest in their now-4-year-old daughter being returned. It's unknown whether the Schmidts face charges. Novotny will be extradited to Wisconsin.

This whole situation hints at some level of meanness by the Wisconsin prosecutors. The natural parents don't want the little girl and she's been doing just fine for four years with the Novotnys.

I don't know why the Wisconsin DA couldn't simply pencil-whip the administrative irregularities and have it blessed by the court. Even though it appears that a law was broken, no party suffered serious injury so a fine might be appropriate. Felony prosecution of Novotny is overkill and likely will cause serious psychological trauma to the little girl as she grows up.

Ordination of Homosexuals

(Clarksville, Arkansas) Arkansas Presbyterians have approved the ordination of homosexuals as ministers, elders and deacons.

The 116-64 vote for the rule change within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) took place after a debate yesterday, and was greeted with silence.

The denomination's national General Assembly approved the amendment in June; the measure goes into effect if a majority of the church's 173 presbyteries approve it.

"Greeted with silence?"

Report: Pak Police Open Fire on Christian Protest

(Sargodha, Pakistan) Reported by the International Christian Concern (ICC), Inspector Muhammad Afzal Lalli, leading a squad of Pakistani Police, chased two suspected drug dealers into the unoccupied home of a Christian widow on February 9th.

After crashing through locked doors, officers allegedly stole jewelry and cash. It's not known whether the suspected drug dealers were apprehended.

However, news of the police raid and theft sparked violent protest in the Christian neighborhood. About 300 young men flooded the streets.

Inspector Lalli, allegedly a radical Muslim, and several police officers returned and reportedly opened fire on the Christian protesters. Police also charged the crowd and starting beating protesters with batons.

At this, the crowd lost control and began throwing bricks and stones at the police. The officers called for backup, and an additional law enforcement team known as the Elite Force arrived to help put down the protest.

An ICC correspondent overheard one of the members of this Elite Force say, "How dare these Chooras [literally, "street sweepers"; a pejorative term for Christians] protest against the police." For three hours the police went back and forth with the infuriated mob.

Finally, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Malik Manzoor Awan and a Christian representative, Mr. Farrukh Tanvir, intervened and appealed to both the police and the angry mob of Christians to cool down. DSP Awan promised the Christians that justice would be served and that the police officers responsible for the raid would be prosecuted. Police then formed a committee to investigate the incident.

In reporting this incident, however, all the Pakistani print and electronic media portrayed the event in a prejudiced manner by concealing the facts and claiming that "all Christians are drug runners."

Interestingly, no casualties from gunshots and beatings have been reported. Nevertheless, it doesn't make the record of the episode any less believable. For instance, having the Pakistani Police form a Pakistani Police committee to investigate the Pakistani Police is quite believable and it's a given that Muslims regularly persecute Christians.

Incidentally, expectations that a Muslim police force will adequately protect and serve Christians are arguably naive. Although the followers of Islam are generally celebrated as moderate (whatever that means), Muslim leaders have repeatedly proven themselves to be intolerant and belligerent toward Christians.

The naivete regarding Islam also appears to be infectious. How else can anyone explain the general trend throughout Europe and North America to allow Muslim practices and ideology to permeate traditionally secular societies and governments? Answering my own question -- political correctness, that's how.

CA: Court strikes down video game law

We read:

"The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld a ruling by the U.S. District Court that struck down a California law preventing the sale and rental of ultra-violent video games to children. The law´s author, Senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco/San Mateo), is urging Attorney General Jerry Brown (D-Oakland) to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Chair-in-Road Death of Police Officer

(Deland, Florida) In July 2007, three self-described pranksters placed a plastic lawn chair in the middle of Interstate-4 near Deltona to "have fun."

About 1:30 AM, Longwood Police Sgt. Karl Strohsal had just finished his shift and was heading home when he swerved to avoid the chair and ran into the guardrail.

Strohsal activated his unmarked car's blue lights and stepped out of his damaged car.

A motorist swerved and missed Strohsal but a second motorist, Dwayne Love of Orlando, struck and killed the sergeant ....

The three alleged pranksters immediately fled. Love was later sentenced to jail for drunken driving. However, according to Florida Highway Patrol Investigator Cpl. Alan Conklin, Love would not have been able to stop in time even if he had been sober.

The trio who perpetrated the deadly stunt are Tyler Jenkins, 20, of St. Petersburg, Eric Biggs, 19, of Deltona, and Katie Jo Peller, 20, of Lakeland. All have been sentenced to prison.

Jenkins, the ringleader, was given nine years for manslaughter. Biggs and Peller each received four years in prison for being accessories after the fact to manslaughter.

Sad story. A police officer dies because of reckless behavior by three jello-brains.

Texas Teacher Gets No Jail in Student Sex Case - Updated

(Houston, Texas) After two days of deliberations last week, the jury at 43-year-old Shannon Hrozek's trial deadlocked on two counts of sexual abuse.

Consequently, Hrozek agreed to plead guilty to reduced counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student in return for no jail time.

With her guilty plea, Hrozek accepted an agreement that ended her sexual abuse trial and her teaching career.

She said, "I want to thank everybody who supported me throughout this entire ordeal, and the people who stepped up at the end to support me."

Prosecutors accused the 43-year-old of performing oral sex on two students in her classroom at Westfield High School last year. The first victim was 16 years old and the other was 15. Both are football players.

"The pleadings on the improper relationship between educator and student indicated that there was sexual contact, that the defendant touched each of the complainants' genitals," explained prosecutor Denise Oncken.

Hrozek was able to walk away without an order to register as a sex offender, however, she will be on probation for ten years and was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under 17.

Notably, some jurors were upset with the plea deal, believing that Hrozek deserved prison and registration as a sex offender.

Teacher Caught Performing Oral Sex on Boy

(Spring, Texas) A 42-year-old English teacher at Westfield High School, Shannon Kay Hrozek, has been arrested for allegedly engaging in classroom sex with a 16-year-old male student. Hrozek has been charged with sexual assault of a child.

According to court documents, she was caught by the school's assistant principal performing oral sex on a 16-year-old male student inside Classroom 143 at the high school.

A school principal used a master key to get into the classroom after a janitor had informed him that the teacher and a student were in the room alone with the lights off.

Hrozek was booked into custody at the Harris County Jail and released on $50,000 bond last night.

Classroom 143 will never be the same.

The scarcity of jobs during the current economic slump is believed to contribute to the sexual subjugation of women. Also, Ukrainian laws governing sexual harassment and sex offenses in the workplace are relatively weak so the courts have provided little help in protecting working women. According to Anna Hutsol of the women's group Femen:

“Sexual perversions are on the rise now. Girls are afraid to lose their jobs and employers take advantage of it.” Hutsol explained that most targeted women are afraid to say no, let alone seek justice in court.

“Women do not feel protected in Ukraine because in our country they are habitually blamed for everything. If she takes her boss to court, he will make it look like she tried seducing him.”

As the head of Femen, Hutsol leads protests advocating against sex tourism and sexretaries. She says she has been inspired by American feminists.

eBay's yellow star prompts 'Nazi' complaint

"EBAY has temporarily renamed the yellow stars it uses to evaluate sellers on its French site after a complaint that the symbol had anti-semitic connotations. The move came after French eBay user Dominique Bellamy wrote to the company earlier this month to point out that during World War II the Nazis made Jews wear a yellow star on their clothes as a discriminatory mark.

His wife Francoise Bellamy said that her husband "refused to be given a yellow star, even a virtual one. It brought back bad memories France's occupation by Germany during World War II, she said.

eBay's star system is used to show how many positive ratings a buyer or seller has received from the site's users. The yellow star is the lowest of the 12-point scale, and a silver shooting star is the top score.

Pro-Abortion Officials Barred from St. Pat's Day Events

(Scranton, Pennsylvania) On the heels of the Pope's admonition of Nancy Pelosi regarding abortion, a Catholic Bishop is taking a firm stand.

Explaining that he is determined to “prevent scandal,” Bishop of Scranton Joseph Martino has said that he will cancel Masses for St. Patrick’s Day or for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade if any pro-abortion officials are honored at the holiday events.

The bishop said that scandal could arise if the Catholic Church is seen to be involved in honoring such officials.

John M. Dougherty, the Auxiliary Bishop of Scranton, explained Bishop Martino’s views in a Feb. 6 letter to John Keeler, President of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Lackawanna County.

Saying that St. Peter’s Cathedral plays “no small role” in the local observance of St. Patrick’s Day, Bishop Dougherty noted that local celebrations often honor elected public officials. This honoring takes place when they are given parade positions or dais opportunities.

“While some of the officials have merited the pride our local people take in them, others have positions and voting records that have contributed to the daily killing of the unborn by abortion,” Bishop Dougherty wrote.

Of course, liberals will be upset with Bishop Martino.

Detroit Urinator Fatally Shot

(Detroit, Michigan) A 69-year-old business owner, Leroy Moon, has been accused of shooting and killing a 36-year-old man who was urinating on his property.

The victim's identity is still being withheld by authorities.

The shooting happened at around 7 p.m. Tuesday, but the motive for the shooting is unclear, police said.

The victim was relieving himself when the owner of the business told his companion, "Go get my gun," Detroit Police spokesman James Tate said.

The owner's friend fetched the weapon as requested and the owner fired at the victim, Tate said.

Moon then fled, according to police. He later was arrested.

Facing first-degree murder charges, Moon was booked into custody without bond.

Nervously laughable! Woman gets company-approved time off from work for family emergency and bereavement. Two of her kids' guinea pigs died.

Ludicrous? Yes and we can expect to see more of this insane type of philosophy. It's just another liberal-initiative which impedes the entrepreneur. Try to run a business when you're forever in the lurch because of an employee's goldfish.

Of course, I shouldn't be surprised after seeing voters approve constitutional rights for pigs.

Girl Drowns Because of Negligent Dad

(Kent, England) Last weekend, 38-year-old and married Andrew Hopper met with his mistress, Paula Anderson, 38, by the sea in Folkstone, Kent, while also babysitting his two young children, Rebecca, 2, and Lewis, 8 months, strapped together in a baby buggy.

As Hopper put his arms around Anderson in a big smooch, he let go of the baby buggy which then rolled off the ocean wall to plunge 15 feet into icy saltwater.

Hopper and Anderson dived into the sea to unstrap the youngsters and rescue them. Six passers-by assisted. Sadly, only eight-month-old Lewis survived. Two-year-old Rebecca drowned.

It's not clear whether a criminal complaint has been filed. In the U.S., there would be the real possibility of a felony child abuse charge being initiated. However, those Brits directly involved and close to the tragedy appear to be just trying to put the episode behind them.

Given that the little girl's death can be attributed to an incident of infidelity on the part of Mr. Hopper and Mrs. Anderson -- yes, she's also married -- one might suspect that the Hopper and Anderson marriages would be stressed. Apparently, that's not the situation at all.

The mother of a drowned two-year-old girl is standing by her husband despite discovering that he was said to be kissing his mistress when the child's pushchair rolled into the sea.

Sarah and Andrew Hopper are 'united' in the wake of revelations that apparently he let go of their children's buggy to embrace his married lover, family friends told the Mail.

A friend who spent Wednesday evening with the pair said: 'They were together at the pub run by Sarah's parents all night. They are putting a brave face on it, for now at least.

'It's been a horrible tragedy but if there's any animosity between them, they don't show it. They seem united. Their dedication to their family is admirable.'

Saudis Behead Two for Rape

(Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) By the sword, two Saudi police officers were beheaded today for raping an expatriate woman.

Corporal Shaalan bin Nasser al-Qahtani and Lance Corporal Fahd bin Hassan al-Sebeyi were convicted of attacking an expatriate and raping his niece at a checkpoint they were manning in the capital, the ministry said in a statement carried by SPA state news agency.

They had stopped them late in the night, beat the man up and locked him in a police car and then raped the woman, it added, without revealing the age or nationality of the victims.

The two men were arrested shortly after the victims reported them at the nearest police station, it said.

Since the beginning of the year, the Saudis have lopped 11 melons. On a yearly basis, Saudi Arabia regularly beheads between 100 and 150 people.

Aussie Beheading Case

(Queensland, Australia) In March 2005, 17-year-old Morgan Jay Shepherd was stabbed 133 times and decapitated. Then his head was used as a bowling ball and a puppet.

James Patrick Roughan, 27, and Chjristopher Clark Jones, 23, were convicted (twice) of Shepherd's murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Roughan appealed his conviction separately on the basis that no evidence tied him to the actual murder, rather he was just guilty of mutilating and disposing of Shepherd's corpse and using his head as a bowling ball. Roughan's lawyer contended that he was merely a passive bystander who bowled with the dead teenager's head.

This month, the Court of Appeal in Brisbane denied Roughan's appeal.

Justice Patrick Keane indicated that Roughan's assertion that he was a passive onlooker was debunked by a secretly recorded conversation between Roughan and Jones in a prison van. The tape recording indicated that Roughan was an aggressive participant in Shepherd's murder.

New Submarines for Australian Navy

(Perth, Australia) The plan to replace the Australian Navy submarine fleet has been announced.

The federal government will spend $15 billion on a new Australian-built fleet of submarines under a 15 to 20 year project.

The project codenamed SEA 100 will replace the Royal Australian Navy's fleet of six Collins-class subs based at Garden Island near Perth, the West Australian newspaper reported on Friday.

The submarines will be built in Adelaide, be non-nuclear and use a combination of Australian, European and US technology.

The acquisition was expected to create thousands of jobs and interest from international submarine outfitters.

It would also have major strategic and diplomatic consequences, a defence expert told the West Australian newspaper.

New technologies being developed by China and Russia would make the Collins-class subs obsolete, Andrew Davies from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute said.

Naturally, the dollar values quoted are Australian. Current exchange rate is US$1.00 = A$1.54.

Something with a large staff and a big office on K street at least? Well the Green/Left have recently discovered a "Right-wing global warming denier propaganda machine" and do you know what it consists of? It is simply a short list of email addresses! I kid you not. An excerpt below:

Must watch those evil lists of email addresses! You never know what censorship attempts they might disrupt! I am one of those on Marc's list, I am pleased to say. He is indeed a useful clearinghouse of scientific information and debate. I am in fact the third one on Marc's list so I am pleased that the Warmists listed me. They must have been disappointed that they could find no evil "affiliation" for me, though. Since I have no formal affiliations, that is not too surprising. It shows how desperate the Warmists are, however, that a humble blogger writing from an upstairs room in a house in a backstreet of a small Australian city could be seen as part of a "Right-wing global warming denier propaganda machine"

What the Warmists omit to mention is the high level of scientific qualifications of most people on the list. I, for instance, not only have a Ph.D. but have been getting academic papers published on the psychology of environmentalism since 1974. And I can assure you that psychology is by far the most relevant discipline for understanding Warmism! And I have received "funding" from no-one. I haven't received as much as a hamburger, in fact. Nor have I sought anything. As a retired man, I live entirely on the proceeds of my investments.
