Pennsylvania Teacher Gets Prison - Updated

(Bangor, Pennsylvania) On Friday (6/8/12), former Bangor Area High School teacher Rachel L. Farrell was sentenced by Judge Emil Giordano to five months in prison and three years of post-release probation.
In April, Farrell pleaded guilty to corrupting a minor, a misdemeanor charge that can bring up to five years in prison.

The teen, whom she taught 11th-grade reading, told investigators that he and Farrell had sex "numerous times at many different locations," often after parking in secluded spots.

In January, District Attorney John Morganelli announced the charges — also revealing that Farrell was suspected of having sex with up to three other students, though he acknowledged their lack of cooperation would likely prevent her from facing additional charges.[…]

Northampton County marriage records show that Farrell, whose maiden name is Werner, was a newlywed at the time, having married in June 2010. She and her husband have since divorced.

In court records, Farrell said she spent time in a psych ward for depression after Bangor police recommended she admit herself. She said in April that she attends a support group for depression twice a week.
Farrell was escorted from the courtroom in handcuffs.

Pennsylvania Teacher Accused of Student Sex
[Previous 2/1/12 post]
(Bangor, Pennsylvania) A 25-year-old teacher at Bangor Area High School, Rachel L. Farrell, has been accused of engaging in sex with several 17-year-old male students, according to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli.

Farrell faces three counts of corruption of minors.
The district attorney's office opened its own investigation, and one student told authorities he knew Farrell as his 11th-grade teacher, but they began to communicate over Facebook and exchange text messages. The relationship eventually became physical, and Farrell repeatedly booked rooms at the Tannersville Ramada Inn for sex, documents say.

The student, identified only as G.R. in court documents, said they also drove to secluded spots and had sex in cars. At least one of the encounters occurred while the two were in a car in the Wal-mart parking lot off Route 248 in Lower Nazareth Township, according to documents.
Farrell was booked into custody and released on $5,000 bail.
