Strippers' Rights

Pole Dancers(Sydney, Australia) Spokeswoman Mystical Melody of Striptease Artists Australia (SAA) can barely keeps her pants on now that the Industrial Relations Commission has established workplace rules for strippers.

The new rules grant vacation, set hours, overtime pay, rest periods, meal breaks and maternity leave. No longer will strippers be slaving under sweatshop conditions for greedy corporate masters.

From Ninemsn.com.au:
"I think (these benefits) are a great breakthrough for us because we've never experienced it before," Ms Melody said.

"The majority of workers in the industry are women, so it's probably a really great thing for them to be able to feel confident of having a job after they've had their babies."
Wages are not specified in the ruling. Apparently, a different government agency, the Australian Fair Pay Commission, will rule on proper wages for a stripper.

I wonder if it is a good idea to have the 'profession' of stripping codified into law. In some circles, just the idea of lap-dancing, a key revenue-generator for strippers, breaks all government edicts regarding sexual harassment. (H/T Mike Meckler)
