Teacher Danielle Walls Pleads Guilty

(San Diego, California) In early June 2006, history teacher at Clairemont High School, Danielle Marie Walls, was arrested on suspicion of having sex with a 16-year-old boy. This past week, Walls confirmed the suspicion.

From SignOnSanDiego.com:
Danielle Walls, 27, pleaded guilty in San Diego Superior Court to felony charges of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for providing the student drugs and alcohol.
Sentencing is scheduled for late September. Walls could get over five years in prison. Unfortunately, all too often female sexual offenders get little more than probation.

[Update 09/27/06]

Walls was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Frank Brown to one year in the local jail. She will not be required to register as a sex offender upon release.

Apparently, no probation period was imposed nor was her eligibility as a teacher addressed or questioned. Nothing to see here. Move along now.

As an afterthought, I strongly suspect that she won't do the full year in jail.

[Update II 09/27/06]

In another report, Deputy District Attorney Dwayne Moring relates that Walls engaged in sex with the 10th-grader "10 to 25 times at four or five hotels around the county." Coupled with the fact that she plied the boy with cocaine and alcohol, it's arguable that her sentence of one year in jail is appropriate. Correcting my previous belief, it's reported that Walls received five years probation in addition to the jail term.

Nonetheless, it appears that Judge Frank Brown was feeling quite charitable during Walls' sentencing.
