Teacher Gets Jail for Sex with Students

(York, Pennsylvania) Last December, Central York High School English teacher Robin Lynn Winkis (pic), now 30, was arraigned on sex and corruption charges resulting from a relationship with a 17-year-old student. She was booked and released on bail. Winkis resigned her position with the school system. Later, charges were filed regarding a second student, 16.

In accordance with the terms of an agreement with the prosecution, Winkis pleaded guilty in April to two counts each of corruption of minors and unlawful contact with minors, and one count of furnishing liquor to a minor.

On Monday (7/19/06), York County Judge Stephen Linebaugh sentenced Winkis to 2 to 23 months in York County Prison and 100 hours of community service. She was also ordered to have no contact with the victims or their families and she must register as a sexual offender under Megan's Law.

Prior to sentencing, Winkis' attorney Terrance McGowan stated he wasn't offering excuses when he said that she was lonely and depressed because her boyfriend beat her and she sought friendship with the male students that escalated to sex. Winkis then apologized to everybody for her poor decisions.
