Connecticut Teacher Accused of Inappropriateness with Boy

(North Canaan, Connecticut) A 42-year-old teacher at North Canaan Elementary School, Melinda Handlowich, was arrested on January 15 for allegedly making advances toward a 13-year-old male student.

Handlowich has been charged with risk of injury to a minor and disorderly conduct with a minor between September 2007 and May 2008.
[T]he boy told police that his paraprofessional, Melinda Handlowich, repeatedly asked him to come live with her, and that he remembered approximately nine instances when she tried to hug and kiss him in the special education room at school. He told police he would push her, duck out of the way or run to try to escape. [...]

The boy told police he reported the problem to his parents after Handlowich had tried to hug and kiss him all day, according to the warrant. That same day, he told police he saw her driving back and forth in her car watching him play in a baseball game after school.

In addition to police, DCF also investigated Handlowich. The agency found no evidence of sexual abuse, according to the warrant.
Handlowich was booked and released on $2,500 bond.
