North Carolina Teacher Allegedly Shoots Student

(Raleigh, North Carolina) A 45-year-old teacher at the Longview School, Dawn Perry, has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and shooting an 18-year-old female student, Jessica Perry. Dawn Perry is not believed to be related to Jessica.

According to Nash County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Joyner, Dawn Perry has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury and kidnapping.
Joyner said the incident began Jan. 18 at N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. Perry waited there for 18-year-old Jessica Perry, a basketball player she had previously coached. [...]

He said Dawn Perry waited for Jessica Perry in a parking lot, where the two women had an argument. Authorities don't know what the dispute was about.

Dawn Perry asked Jessica to take her to Louisburg, Joyner said. The younger woman refused and got in her car, but she was then persuaded to let Dawn in, he said.

"Dawn pulled a firearm and pointed it at Jessica and told her to drive," he said.
Eventually, Dawn Perry fired a shot into Jessica Perry's leg and then drove her to the hospital. Joyner said the gunshot wound turned out to be minor so Jessica Perry was treated and released.

Dawn Perry was booked into custody and later released on $40,000 bond. She has been suspended by the Wake County School system.
