Barbara Case Gets Prison in Boy-Sex Case - Updated

(Harrisonburg, Virginia) Yesterday in U.S. District Court, Barbara Renee Case, 39, pleaded guilty to traveling to Australia to engage in illicit sex with a 15-year-old boy.

Case met the 15-year-old boy online in December 2007, when she was 36. After five months of sexually explicit conversations online and on the telephone, Case flew to Australia and had sex with the boy numerous times over several days at a cabin she rented.

In 2008, Case was convicted in Australia and given a suspended sentence. As a result of yesterday's conviction in Virginia, Case was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.

Interestingly, mother-of-three Barbara Case has the distinction of being convicted, sentenced and ordered to register as a sex offender on two continents. And her troubles all progressed from an Internet flirtation with a youngster.

Woman Gets No Jail for Sex with Aussie Boy

(Victoria, Australia) Earlier this summer, a 36-year-old American woman, Barbara Case, was arrested for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Australian boy she met over the Internet.

It seems the provocative keyboarding style of the boy prompted Case to tell her husband and three children that she was going on vacation but, instead, she caught a flight to Australia to be with the boy.

It's unclear what Case was looking for but what she got was criminal charges of illegal sexual intercourse and oral sex with a boy under 16. In August, Case pleaded guilty to the charges and her case was scheduled for court adjudication.

Pleading guilty to two charges of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16, the court heard Case met the boy through an online game called Runescape on Christmas Day last year.

"You knew he was 15, and you corresponded regularly," Judge Tim Wood said.

In May, Case flew to Australia to meet the boy.

They spent their first night together in a holiday park cabin in Bendigo.

For the following 11 days, the pair had intercourse on eight occasions and engaged in oral sex three times.

They were caught when the boy's parents became concerned and contacted police.

Today, Barbara Case sobbed as she was sentenced in Bendigo County Court by Judge Tim Wood. She received 16 months in jail, suspended for two years, and was warned that she could serve the time if she committed additional offenses.

Judge Wood also ordered her to register as a serious sex offender which would seem to only apply if she plans to visit or reside in Australia again. It was hinted that she may face charges in the U.S. (Virginia) but there's no indication that American officials are taking action.

In summary, the story is presumably over. Case was charged and convicted of child sex crimes, sentenced to no jail and likely has already boarded a flight to return to her humiliated family in Virginia.

Pakistani Mom Forced to Parade Naked

(Islamabad, Pakistan) Two brothers, Rashid and Kazim, allegedly engaged in sex with a married neighbor. She became pregnant, enraging the husband, Mohammad Salman, who went looking for the brothers.

However, the brothers had skipped town, leaving only their mother at home.

Refusing to be denied some sort of retribution, Salman and four armed men forced the mother to strip and parade naked through the streets of Nilor Bala, a village north of the capital.

It's apparently a cultural thing to go after the mother if the sons are douches.

From Boston's South End, home to the Catholic parish of St. Cecilia, comes a different tale of misplaced outrage.

St. Cecilia's worshipers include a considerable number of gays and lesbians, many of whom are active in the church's Rainbow Ministry. According to its mission statement, the Rainbow Ministry works to "welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Catholics to worship God and . . . to embrace Jesus' call to unconditional love." Its goal is to "help LGBT Catholics seek reconciliation with the Church to enrich a spirit-filled life."

St. Cecilia and its pastor, Rev. John J. Unni, are obviously sensitive to the difficulties faced by gays and lesbians who are Catholic, and want them to feel fully appreciated as members of the congregation. That is admirable as a matter of basic decency. It's also in keeping with church doctrine: The catechism of the Catholic Church expressly teaches that gays "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity" and that "every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

But even as it enjoins goodwill toward homosexuals, the church firmly opposes homosexuality itself. The same section of the catechism describes "deep-seated homosexual tendencies" as "objectively disordered," and says that gay sex can "under no circumstances ... be approved."

So St. Cecilia plainly crossed a red line when it announced last month that it was planning a "Liturgy To Commemorate Boston Pride 2011," and invited "friends and supporters of the LGBT community to a Mass in celebration of Boston's Pride Month." After all, there is no way to square the church's condemnation of homosexual activity with a mass "in celebration" of Gay Pride Month. The Archdiocese of Boston ordered the parish to cancel the service -- and the result, predictably, has been angry indignation.

"I think that's horrible, just horrible, that they would cancel. What an abuse of authority," fumed Marianne Duddy-Burke, a gay Catholic activist. Charles Martel, co-founder of Catholics for Marriage Equality, went so far as to accuse the archdiocese of yielding to "a hatred for gay people."

Their anger may be sincerely felt. But denouncing a Catholic archdiocese for upholding Catholic standards isn't rational. The Catholic Church, like any great religion, is open to all who seek to be guided by its teachings. It can hardly be expected to discard those teachings for the sake of popularity or political correctness -- or to quell the outrage of parishioners who prefer a church more concerned with their self-esteem than with their spiritual well-being.

Proposed Porn Industry Regulations

(Los Angeles, California) The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CAL/OSHA) held a hearing this week to discuss proposed changes to safety regulations for the pornography industry.

State officials seek additional measures to protect porn industry employees. Porn performers will be required to wear goggles when engaged in oral sex and HIV testing must be conducted every 10 days.

Attorneys and performers alike dissected Cal/OSHA's 17-page proposal that mingled government legalese with sexually explicit language, including the occupational hazards of bodily secretions and the piercing of mucous membranes.

Porn industry veterans claim the new regs are biased and don't reflect performers' input.

PETA Complains About Happy Cows Ads

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has filed a lawsuit against the California Milk Advisory Board and the Department of Food and Agriculture claiming that the famous "Happy Cows" advertising campaign is baseless.

Apparently, PETA believes California cows have not conveyed requisite evidence to indicate that they are happy.

Therefore, PETA contends the "Happy Cows" advertising campaign is false and misleading.

New York Teacher Resigns in Sexting Case

(Corning, New York) A 40-year-old health teacher formerly at Corning East High School, Teri Decker, resigned her position after allegations surfaced that she was having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Reportedly, Decker sent thousands of text messages to the student with many displaying sexual content.

[Police] say Decker encouraged the student to hide the relationship from his mother.

Police say Decker had also kissed the student on the lips in a classroom for 10 minutes. However Decker's lawyer said she only admitted to sending the text messages.

Last month, Decker pleaded guilty to misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. Sentencing is scheduled for July 26.

Ohio Concealed-Carry Law

(Columbus, Ohio) Yesterday, the Ohio Legislature approved a measure which allows guns in bars and restaurants. The bill was passed in the House 55-39 and in the Senate 25-7.

The bill has been sent to Gov. Kasich who has indicated he will "likely" sign it.

Archeological Find

(Herculaneum, Italy) An ancient sewer system below the Roman-era town of Herculaneum, buried in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, has been examined and found to be full of -- well -- sewer stuff.

In a tunnel 86m long, they unearthed what is believed to be the largest deposit of human excrement ever found in the Roman world.

Seven hundred and fifty sacks of it to be exact, containing a wealth of information.

Therefore, if your sewer system gets plugged, just say it was caused by a "wealth of information."

Open Letter to Dummo Obama

In your recent interview with NBC News you explained that your policies would promote more private-sector job creation were it not for (as you put it) “some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you don’t go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and you’re using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate.”

With respect, sir, you’re complaining about the source of our prosperity: innovation and the increases it causes in worker productivity.

With no less justification – but with no more validity – any of your predecessors might have issued complaints similar to yours. Pres. Grant, for example, might have grumbled in 1873 about “some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to a bank that uses a modern safe and so employs fewer armed guards than before, or when you travel on trains which, compared to stage coaches, transport many more passengers using fewer workers.”

Or Pres. Nixon might have groused in 1973 about such labor-saving innovation: “You see it when you step into an automatic elevator that doesn’t require an elevator operator, or when you observe that polio vaccination keeps people alive and active without the aid of nurses and all those workers who were once usefully employed making iron-lung machines, crutches, and wheelchairs.”

Do you, Pres. Obama, really wish to suggest that the innovations you blame for thwarting your fiscal policies are “structural issues” that ought to be corrected?

Teacher's Children Fathered by Student

(Houston, Texas) An arrest warrant has been issued for former HISD teacher Anne Lynn Montgomery, 35, who is accused of engaging in a long-term relationship with a 16-year-old male student.

Montgomery faces charges of improper relationship with a student and sexual assault of a child.

Reportedly, Montgomery had two children fathered by the student.

The boy told police the two had sex in Montgomery's car in the parking lot of an apartment complex where the teen lived with his mother. The 16-year-old fathered a child born in May 2008.

Teacher and student moved to Bellaire High school where they, apparently, moved in together and continued their relationship through 2009, the criminal complaint against Montgomery shows.

The first and a second child, born in 2009, were confirmed by DNA to be offspring of the student.

Texas Teacher Gets Weekend Jail, Probation - Updated

(Sugarland, Texas) Teacher Lynne Ellen Field has pleaded guilty before District Judge Clifford Vacek to a reduced charge of misdemeanor criminal mischief even though she was indicted on felony charges of arson and burglary.

Apparently, the court developed sympathy for Lynne Field's case.

As a result, Field was sentenced to 60 days in jail to be completed on weekends, to complete 250 hours of community service, to undergo weekly mental-health counseling and to pay a $1,000 fine and $5,593 in restitution.

Texas Teacher Accused of Burglary, Arson

(Sugarland, Texas) A 48-year-old first-grade teacher at Evelyn Turlington Elementary School, Lynne Ellen Field, has been accused of breaking into her ex-husband's house when he was away and starting a fire.

Field faces charges of burglary and arson.

Sugar Land police said Field broke into her ex-husband's home in the 1500 block of Caledonia Trail in Telfair on May 1.

Investigators said Field set a fire that damaged a guest bedroom and dumped several items in a backyard pool.

Field was booked into custody and later released on $10,000 bond.

Left-Libertarian hate speech

The writer below is referring to a law that empowers police to arrest people suspected of being an illegal immigrant if they are stopped for another reason and requires businesses and schools to verify whether workers and students are in the country lawfully. It also makes it a crime to knowingly transport or shelter illegal immigrants.

"This past Thursday the Alabama legislature put on their white hoods and enacted the harshest anti-immigrant regime in the country, one even more tyrannical than Arizona’s ethnic-cleansing laws. ...

The old Jim Crow laws enforced discrimination based on the colour of a person’s skin; the new Jim Crow laws enforce discrimination on the basis of a person’s birth on the wrong side of an imaginary line."

The U.S. border is an imaginary line?? The writer is a philosophy professor -- a notoriously nutty trade. But this guy's trade seems to be wildly exaggerated abuse. He seems so full of hate that he has lost all reality contact.

He accompanied his screed with a picture of the KKK in action so he is clearly accusing the Alabama legislators as being of that ilk. I think I would be wary of a defamation lawsuit if I were he.

Florida Woman Accused of Topless Drunk Driving

(Stuart, Florida) A 21-year-old local woman, Keila De Oliveira Leite, has been arrested on drug and alcohol charges after allegedly being stopped topless while driving drunk.

Deputies stopped Leite for driving erratically and discovered she was under the influence and possessed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She also sported exposed breastages.

A deputy saw the Nissan pull in the oncoming lane and start to pass vehicles, crossing the double solid yellow lines. The vehicle drove around another deputy who tried to stop it and traveled 25 mph in a 45 mph zone with its right turn signal activated.

Leite, identified as the driver, finally stopped.

She was topless and “argumentative” about dressing.

Leite was booked into custody. No news on bond.

Death During Rape

(Refugio, Texas) A 53-year-old man, Isabel Chavelo Gutierrez, rode a bicycle two miles to rape a 77-year-old woman at knifepoint. While assaulting the woman, Gutierrez rolled over and died.

He probably should have walked.

Florida Woman Accused of Sex with Male Teen

(Fort Pierce, Florida) A 32-year-old local woman, Berea Lonise Standifer, has been accused of engaging in an extended-term sexual relationship with a teenage boy.

Standifer was arrested and charged with sexual activity with a minor.

The teen boy said his mother was aware of the relationship. The teen boy said he's upset because he was arrested and Standifer broke up with him. He said he wants her prosecuted.

Standifer said she met the teen boy around Christmas in 2009. She said the relationship was sexual and that he told her he was 18.

She said she didn't know how old he was until he got arrested and went to a juvenile detention facility.

Standifer was booked into custody. A bond amount is unavailable.

Return to Single-Sex University Dorms

(Washington D.C.) The Catholic University of America is transitioning away from coed dorms.

Starting with the incoming class of freshmen this fall, the university will place women in all-female halls and men in all-male halls.

The following school year, sophomore halls will follow suit. Then upperclassmen halls.

Starting several decades ago, some believed that the coed dorm policy would ultimately influence male students to become more responsible and less inclined toward hormone-infused and alcohol-saturated irresponsibility.

Unfortunately, studies have shown that the exact opposite occurred. Female students apparently don't provide any sort of civilizing influence, they merely join in with the hedonistic sex and booze coed dorm lifestyle. Imagine that.

Interestingly, "studies" were needed to discover that young males and females sleeping together leads to wanton consumption of alcohol and promiscuous sex. It's kind of insulting that "studies" were needed to acquire one little lick of common sense.
