Texas Concealed Carry

(Bexar County, Texas) Bexar Criminal District Attorney Susan Reed reports crime statistics.
In a statement released Thursday, Reed specifically discusses statistics related to offenses committed by individuals licensed in Texas under the Concealed Handgun Laws.

"The first full year of statistics following passage of the CHL law was in 1996. Our analysis shows from 1996 - 2011, there were a total of 852,271 convictions in Texas for the 125 offenses listed in the report," Reed said in a news release.

According to the letter, of the 852,271 convictions, only 1,972 of those were by individuals who were licensed to carry a concealed handgun at the time of the offense.

"This means less than one quarter of one percent of persons convicted of these major crimes held a CHL," Reed said.
The Department of Public Safety compiled the data.
