Hoosier Teacher Accused of Sex with Male Student

(Covington, Indiana) A 35-year-old English teacher at Covington Community High School, Tiffany A. Mosson, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student.

Mosson was arrested yesterday and charged with felony child seduction.

Court documents show the relationship began with a note passed between the two in class. The two exchanged messages via text and social networking sites, then the teen began spending time at the teacher’s house, sometimes for the whole weekend.

According to court documents, Mosson told police she knew she would get caught and knew what she was doing was wrong. She told police she planned to stop and move away.

Mosson was booked into custody at the Fountain County Jail and released on $10,000 bond.

Prison for Selling Gluten Bread

(Raleigh, North Carolina) Bakery owner Paul Evan Seelig was sentenced to nine years in prison yesterday for selling bread labeled as gluten-free.

Seelig reportedly sold the bread at the North Carolina State Fair and the fairgrounds flea market.

Presumably, a stretch for fraudulent bread-labeling will be laughable to the resident convict hierarchy in the big house. That will make his sentence seem like an eternity.

Nine years, however, is not laughable. It's quite harsh, I think, assuming he wasn't intentionally trying to harm some people.

Mom Gets Life in Prison for Killing Baby - Updated

(Butler County, Ohio) Earlier today, 27-year-old Asuncion Avila-Villa pleaded guilty to all four charges against her in connection with the murder of her five week old baby in 2009.

In exchange for her plea, Asuncion Avila-Villa avoided the death penalty.

Police said when they found the body of Israel Santos, he was malnourished and had several broken bones, abrasions and bruises.

The baby died of a crashed skull. Prosecutors called her burial of the infant's body in a garbage can as quote gang style.

Asuncion Avila-Villa was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Mom Accused of Killing Baby to Hide Sex with Minor

(Hamilton, Ohio) A local woman, Asuncion "Suzie" Avila-Villa, has been accused of murdering her three-month-old son, Israel Santos, to hide the fact that she had sex with the child's 14-year-old father.

She has been charged with aggravated murder, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Investigators allege that Avila-Villa crushed her malnourished baby's skull and broke his arm before throwing him in the garbage and reporting that he was missing.

Although Avila-Villa claims to be mentally ill and taking medication, she was ruled today by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Nastoff to be competent to stand trial.

Sex Research

(Hamburg, Germany) The social research group, Forsa, conducted a survey of more than 1,000 German men and women to determine what motivated them to have sex.

Surprisingly, the overwhelming majority of respondents said it was fun.

Sources of funding for the research were not reported but I suspect taxpayer money was involved.

Dance Teacher Gets Hand Slap in Sex Case - Updated

(San Andreas, California) Dance teacher Sarah May, aka Sarah May Davie, 32, was sentenced yesterday to two months in jail and three years of probation.

May has the option of skipping jail and, instead, wear an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet.

Judge Thomas A. Smith said that once May successfully completes the first 12 months of her probation, she can apply to have the unlawful intercourse charge reduced to a misdemeanor.

That would mean she would not have to register as a sex offender.

May we assume that Judge Smith gave Sarah May a stern look of disapproval as he slapped her hand?

Dance Teacher Accused of Unlawful Sex with Boy

(Calaveras County, California) Last month, a 32-year-old dance teacher at Murphys Satori School for the Arts, Sarah May Davey (aka Davie), was arrested for allegedly engaging in sex with a male student.

According to a report by Senior Deputy Heather Gordon, the victim and Davey allegedly had sex one night in June 2010 and the victim used a condom he bought at the gas station.

The victim eventually told his parents what had happened, according to court records, and Davey allegedly told another dance teacher of her misdeeds, according to the report.

According to the other teacher, after the June 6 incident Davey said, “I was really bad last night,” adding that she slept with someone she shouldn’t have. The witness said that Davey told him the victim was drunk but she was not, adding that while giggling Davey said she should be chained up because she was so bad. The witness also said Davey told him that she thought the victim was “... so hot, and I’m around him all the time.”

The report noted that there was another potential victim that had allegedly been inappropriately fondled by Davey.

While babysitting for the second victim’s parents, Davey allegedly allowed a small party to occur and provided alcohol to minors, the report said. The report also mentions allegations that Davey tried to kiss a minor and put her hands down his pants.

Davey is free on monitored release until her next court appearance on January 24th.

He speaks to Hamas both in the language they understand [Arabic] and in the vocabulary they understand.

Maj. Adraee, of course, was last seen laying down the law to Hamas back in Jan. 2009 (he was a captain back then), right about the time some 1,000 Hamas cadres were mysteriously incinerated. Or maybe not so mysteriously. In any event, Maj. Adraee has been a favorite here ever since. (See here and here.)

It's funny, the day the Arab League is crying to the UN to enforce a "no-fly zone" over Gaza, the IDF airs this video based on its flights over Gaza, talk about flipping them the bird!

Could it be that the Fakestinian provocations have become so despicable and overt that they have awakened even Bibi and Ehud from their comas? The IDF doesn't usually make a broadcast like this, check that, NEVER MAKES A BROADCAST LIKE THIS unless it is a part of a major strategic operation.

Especially when the IDF highlights that the Arabs have just "crossed all red lines." That is a clear and obvious code in this conflict.

Interestingly, it's reported that the brothers engage in cannibalism as revenge against women. Apparently, they hate women so much that they are compelled to dig up corpses and eat them.

(Punjab Province, Pakistan) Two brothers, Muhammad Arif, 40, and Farman Ali, 37, have been accused of desecrating a grave after allegedly being found cannibalizing the body of a 24-year-old female cancer victim, Saira Parveen.

Police in Pakistan have arrested two men for allegedly digging up a newly buried corpse and eating its flesh in a curry.

The two brothers are said to have cut the legs from the body of a 24-year-old woman and cooked the flesh in a steel pot.

Some of the gruesome dish had already been eaten when police raided the brothers' home in a remote part of Punjab province.

Police say the two men have been eating corpses for a year.

Blast Kills 11 at Metro Station in Belarus

(Minsk, Belarus) A rush-hour blast in the Minsk metro station earlier today left 11 people dead and scores injured. The bomb exploded at the Oktyabrskaya metro station at 5:55 PM local time.

President Lukashenko arrived at the scene and ordered the KGB, the Belarus Security Service, to "turn the country upside down" to find the perpetrators.

While Belarus has been free of the Islamist terrorist violence that has plagued neighboring Russia, some 50 people were injured in July 2008 when a bomb went off at an independence day concert that Lukashenko was attending.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called Lukashenko to offer both condolences and assistance to the former Soviet republic. The Belarusian leader said later that Russian experts would arrive on Tuesday to help the KGB with the investigation.

Russia will send a team of experienced doctors to Minsk to help Belarusian metro station blast victims, a spokesman for Russian health and social development ministry said.

Given the reputed successful interrogation techniques of the Russians, I suspect the perps will be identified soon.

Evolution of prejudice: Study reveals racism in MONKEYS

Racial, ethnic and religious prejudice may lie in our evolutionary past, according to new research using monkeys. Several experiments have found the animals were more wary of outsiders and associated bad things with them. The research was conducted on the uninhabited Puerto Rico island of Cayo Santiago, which has a large rhesus monkey population.

Yale student Neha Mahajan led a team of psychologists to study their behaviour because like humans, monkeys live in groups and have strong social bonds.

Psychologists have always known many of our prejudices operate automatically, without us even being aware of them.

Tests on the monkeys showed that our tendency to see the world in terms of 'us' and 'them' has ancient origins.

Researchers measured the amount of time the monkeys stared at photographed face of an insider (part of the group) versus the outsider monkey. Across several experiments, they found that the monkeys stared longer at the faces of outsiders suggesting they were more wary, according to the Scientific American.

To ensure the monkeys weren't just curious, the team paired familiar outsider faces - monkeys that had recently left the group - with monkeys which had recently joined.

When presented with these pairs, the monkeys continued to stare longer at outsider faces, even though they were more familiar with them. The monkeys were clearly making distinctions based on group membership.

Mahajan and her colleagues devised an experiment to discover if the animals had negative feelings towards the outsiders. They paired the photos of insider and outsider monkeys with either good things, such as fruits, or bad things, such as spiders.

When an insider face was paired with fruit, or an outsider face was paired with a spider, the monkeys quickly lost interest. But when an insider face was paired with a spider, the monkeys looked longer at the photographs.

It was assumed the monkeys found it confusing when something good was paired with something bad. This suggests that monkeys not only distinguish between insiders and outsiders, they associate insiders with good things and outsiders with bad things.

Overall, the results support an evolutionary basis for prejudice, said the Scientific American.

Murder on Brit Nuclear Submarine



(Southampton, England) A 22-year-old British seaman on the nuclear submarine HMS Astute, Ryan Donovan, apparently snapped and shot dead an officer and seriously wounded another on Friday.

The slain officer was Weapons Engineer Lieutenant Commander Ian Molyneux. The second officer, Lieutenant Commander Chris Hodge, is reportedly in stable condition after being shot in the stomach.

A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said Able Seaman Ryan Samuel Donovan, 22, has been charged with his murder along with the attempted murders of Petty Officer Christopher Brown, 36, Chief Petty Officer David McCoy, 37, and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hodge, 45.

It's not clear what caused Donovan to start shooting. Speculation suggests he was upset about being denied shore leave and/or there was a dispute about the toilet. Reportedly, Donovan was told he couldn't use the facilities until a tour of visiting dignitaries had their turn.

It's also reported that Donovan had a strong dislike for submarine duty.

German Nuke Companies to Stop Paying Greenies

Since the German government has decided to shut down 17 nuclear power plants in the wake of the Japanese Fukushima accident, four energy companies have decided to stop payments to the environmental fund.

EON, RWE and Vattenfall told AFP they stopped payment, starting this month, to the fund created in January as compensation for the government's decision last year to prolong the life of 17 nuclear plants by more than a decade, until the mid-2030s.

The environmental fund is set to lose €300 million (about $430 million) in 2011.

Ouch! That's got to sting.

Suicide Bomber Oops!



(Kizlyar, North Caucasus) No surprise here. Suicide bombers regularly detonate prematurely.

A man wearing a suicide bomber vest died in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan after his bomb apparently exploded ahead of time, with no one hurt in the explosion, local police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred late on Saturday in the town of Kizlyar.

The body of a man was found at the site of the explosion. He was identified as a 30-year old resident of Dagestan. A submachine gun, two grenades and the fragments of a suicide bomber vest were found near him, the police said.

(Seattle, Washington) Former Garfield High School teacher Taryn Fairbanks pleaded guilty yesterday to first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor stemming from relations with a 17-year-old male student.

Fairbanks faces six to 12 months in jail when sentenced on April 8.

Fairbanks, 33, was booked into the King County Jail on Thursday pending her sentencing.

Fairbanks, who was previously known as Taryn Stermer, resigned from Seattle Public Schools shortly before the charges were filed in July. She then moved back to her native Las Vegas.

According to Seattle police, Fairbanks had sex with a 17-year-old Garfield student on June 23 during a party at his home. His parents were out of town at the time, police said.

With the exception of teachers and other people in positions of authority, it's legal to slither and squeeze with a 16-year-old in the state of Washington.

Teacher Accused of Sex with Student

(Seattle, Washington) A 33-year-old teacher formerly at Garfield High School, Taryn M. Fairbanks, has been charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor stemming from allegedly performing a sexual act on a 17-year-old student.

On June 29, police received an anonymous tip from a woman that Fairbanks, also known as Taryn Stermer, was sexually involved with a former male Garfield student, 19, and a 17-year-old student. The woman told police she learned about the incident after intercepting a text message from her daughter's phone.

A detective was assigned to the case July 1, and Garfield principal Ted Howard was alerted to the report.

"Although he had not heard of the allegations prior to notification by police, he quickly learned that the rumors of the teacher's sexual activity were widespread among students at Garfield, and even among students at other schools," Detective Donna Stangeland wrote in a probable cause document.

Reportedly, Fairbanks has moved to Nevada. However, she's due to be arraigned on July 21 in King County Superior Court.

Day Care Owner Accused of Sex with Boy

(Riverside, California) A 50-year-old day care operator, Lovetta James Poole, has been accused of molesting a seven-year-old boy between August and September 2005. The boy's family alerted police.

Poole has been charged with five felony counts of lewd acts using force with a minor under 10 and aggravated sexual assault with a minor using force.

Police arrested Poole on March 29 during a traffic stop on Memorial Way in Moreno Valley. Police reported the arrest Wednesday.

Poole was booked into custody at the Robert Presley Detention Center. Bail was set at $1 million.

Ohio Educator Gets Hand Slap in Sex Case - Updated

(Springfield, Ohio) Former Tecumseh High School guidance counselor Kristin Mastin was sentenced yesterday to probation for five years.

In testimony presented by the defense before sentencing, psychologist James Reardon said Mastin experienced mental and physical illnesses that set off a “psychological decline” leading to the offense.

“This began the seeds of her downfall,” said Reardon. “She did things completely uncharacteristic of her.”

Clark County Prosecutor Andy Wilson, during cross examination, dismissed the defense’s argument.

“Lots of people have health problems ... those people aren’t out committing sex offenses,” said Wilson.

So, if you are a middle-age educator with a headache and the flu, it's pretty much okay to knock boots with a 16-year-old student. You'll be convicted but receive no jail.

Ohio Guidance Counselor Guilty in Sex Case

(Springfield, Ohio) Last year, a 38-year-old guidance counselor at Tecumseh High School, Kristin Mastin, was accused of engaging in sex with a 16-year-old male student between October and December.

Mastin was charged with three counts of sexual battery. On Friday of this week, Mastin pleaded guilty to the charges.

Mastin wept as the charges against her were read and as Common Pleas Judge Richard O’Neill ordered a pre-sentence investigation.

Sentencing has been scheduled for April 8 when Mastin faces a possible 15 years in prison.

Florida Woman Gets 60 Years for Child Porn

(Lakeland, Florida) In February, a 35-year-old local woman, Jodi Vinson, was found guilty of making child pornography.

Jurors deliberated for about an hour before reaching their verdict.

They found Vinson, 35, guilty on more than 40 criminal counts, including taking pornographic photographs of two female relatives who were 7 and 10 years old.

Vinson and her boyfriend, Ricky Bailey, were arrested in September 2009.

Yesterday, Jodi Vinson was sentenced by Circuit Judge John K. Stargel to 60 years in prison.

Female Teacher and Female Student in Texas

(Fort Bend County, Texas) Two years ago, a married mother-of-four and teacher at Lake Olympia Middle School, Terrie Rhodes, was accused of an improper relationship with a female student and placed on administrative leave.

After a year with no charges being filed, Rhodes was reinstated. However, the investigation by the Sheriff continued.

This week, the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office had enough evidence to arrest 46-year-old Terrie Rhodes. She now faces charges of indecency with a child/sexual contact and improper relationship between educator and student.

The sheriff’s office on Thursday said they believe Rhodes and the student had sexual contact in one of the classrooms at Olympia.

"I’m not gonna go into much detail on that. It was sexual contact. Female student and female teacher, inappropriate touching. Things of that nature," Chief Deputy Brady of the FBCSO said.

Investigators said it took two years to build the case because they had trouble getting records from two cell phone service providers.

The Sheriff's office indicated that there may be more victims.


Rhodes was booked into custody at the Fort Bend County Jail with bond set at $30,000.

French Burqa Ban Starts Monday - Updated



On Monday, France will become the first European nation to enforce a burqa ban.

Under a ministerial directive, anyone refusing to lift his or her veil to submit to an identity check can be taken to a police station. There, officers must try to persuade them to remove the garment, and can threaten fines.

A woman who repeatedly insists on appearing veiled in public can be fined 150 euros (216 dollars) and ordered to attend re-education classes.

Critics are skeptical as to whether the law can be effectively enforced since the ban had to be written without referencing any religion. Therefore, any kind of face covering will supposedly be banned.

In any event, social tensions are expected to be stirred. Displeasure may be expressed by youths setting fire to a larger-than-normal number of cars.

French Approve Burqa Ban

(Paris, France) According to polling, there is overwhelming support for the burqa ban in France.

The French Senate approved Tuesday a law banning any veils that cover the face -- including the burqa, the full-body covering worn by some Muslim women -- making France the first European country to plan such a measure.

The law passed by a vote of 246 to 1, with about 100 abstentions coming essentially from left-leaning politicians.

The legislation was overwhelmingly approved by the lower house of parliament in July and will go into effect next spring.

Meanwhile, only minutes after the burqa ban was approved, the Eiffel Tower was evacuated on a bomb scare that followed an al-Qaeda warning. About 25,000 people were ushered away from the landmark.

Police conducted a level-by-level search but didn't find any bomb.
