IBM FACES AGE BIAS LAWSUIT

A lawsuit against IBM Corp. has been filed in United States District Court in San Jose, CA, on behalf of 135 ex-IBM employees who claim they were discriminated against because of age. The law firm of McTeague, Higbee, Case, Cohen, Whitney & Toker in Topsham, Maine, represents the plaintiffs. Research data indicate that a much higher proportion of workers 45 years-old and older were laid off than younger workers in recent years. The suit claims this violates laws banning age bias.

The court is being asked to require that IBM reinstate the laid-off employees as well as payment of back pay, lost benefits and lost future wages.

IBM has not commented yet.
