Most LA Workers Found Illiterate
According to a study performed by the United Way of Greater Los Angeles, 53% of workers ages 16 and older in the Los Angeles region are considered functionally illiterate. The study utilized data from the 2000 Census, the U.S. Department of Education, and a survey of literacy programs. The study classified 3.8 million people in LA County as "low-literate" which means "they could not write a note explaining a billing error, use a bus schedule or locate an intersection on a street map."
The authors of the study blame the illiteracy on the massive flood of non-English speaking illegals entering the country and a 30% high school dropout rate. Just a reminder, these illiterate illegal aliens are doing all the essential jobs that illiterate "regular Americans" don't want to do.
