'Stone Child' Born

(Jakarta, Indonesia) Time and again, I've heard mothers go on and on about their pregnancies, but none of their stories could match the following.

From the Indo-Asian News Service:
Indonesian doctors removed a 27-year-old calcified foetus from the abdomen of a 54-year-old woman in East Java, reports said Wednesday.

The 1.6-kilogram foetus or lithopaedion, meaning stone child in Latin, was reportedly removed from Taminah at Soetomo Hospital in Surabaya.

"This is an extremely rare case," Poejo Hartono, the gynaecologist involved in the surgery, was quoted as saying.

Taminah, hailing from Bojonegoro district, 620 km east of Jakarta, knew the baby died in 1978 but did not have money for the surgery.
Holy moly! One would imagine she had some sort of severe aches and pains during the 27 years. Also, it would seem a relative or friend would have mentioned, "Taminah, I think you're overdue."
