No Jail for Rape/Sodomy

(Poplar Bluff, Missouri) In October 2006, former New Madrid Central Middle School teacher, Susan Sharp, 49, pleaded guilty to two counts each of statutory rape and statutory sodomy resulting from engaging in sex with underage teen boys.

The sex occurred in October 2004 at Sharp's home in an evening of kissing, oral sex, intercourse and pill-popping. Sex with Sharp allegedly later led to the attempted suicide by a distraught 15-year-old boy.

Last week, Judge William C. Seay sentenced Sharp to probation after suspending seven-year prison terms imposed on each count. Seay threw in a bunch of stipulations for Sharp's probation which failed to register with me since I am thinking about the fact that she gets no jail.

It's more than a miscarriage of justice, it's a miscarriage of reason. Change circumstances a moment and imagine a 49-year-old male teacher partying and having sex with 15-year-old girls, with one attempting suicide. Would he get probation? I don't think so.
