"Emmis Austin Radio has suspended Jason Alvarez and Deb O’Keefe, hosts of the 101x morning show on 101.5 FM. Alvarez and O'Keefe were suspended for one week after they used suggestive and insulting words on the air.
Alvarez and O'Keefe were remarking on ways that Zilker Park could be cleaned up after ACL festival. Heavy rains soaked the new grass at the park during the festival which led to mudpits. O'Keefe was heard over the air making a several comments about hiring "wet vacs" to clean up the mess. Listners called in to complain about the use of the word.
On Wednesday Emmis released the following statement about the suspension: "The Jason & Deb morning show, on 101X Tuesday morning, were discussing a news item about the problems at Zilker Park with the mud after ACL. During that discussion they did not use any slur, but they did make foolish and ugly comments for which we sincerely apologize. They suggested getting a big squeegee or a wet vac. They then repeated the wet vac suggestion in some suggestive and insulting ways. As a result, they were suspended immediately for one week..."

A TEENAGE girl dying from meningitis begged and pleaded with nurses to give her antibiotics, an inquest heard. The coroner ruled the death was from natural causes. Melissa's family is considering legal action.
But Melissa Watmough, 17, had to wait nearly three hours for the drugs after arriving by emergency ambulance to the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
There was then a delay of almost two hours before she was seen by a doctor and then another hour before she was administered the antibiotics she hoped would save her life.
Melissa's mum Joanne told the inquest: "I might as well have let her stay at home and die quietly. In our view the hospital did not treat her quickly enough.
"We believe that if she would have received the appropriate antibiotic treatment earlier in the process she would still be here today. Meningitis is a deadly disease. All the guidance suggests that time is of the essence.
"Melissa was becoming very scared and concerned about her health and begged the nurse to give her antibiotics."
According to the plaintiff's attorneys, Patch's death was caused by the defective and unreasonably dangerous product because the bat was designed and manufactured to allow the ball to be hit with such significant force as to endanger the safety of those playing the game.Expected to last for a couple weeks, the trial will be watched with understandably keen interest by followers of baseball.
No warnings were given to adequately provide sufficient notice to users such as Patch of the dangerous propensities of these products, the suit alleges.
The lawsuit states the plaintiff is entitled to punitive damages for the sake of example and as punishment from the makers of Louisville Slugger, Hillerich & Bradsby Co., which acted with actual malice due to their knowledge or intentional disregard of facts, creating a high probability of injury to players such as Patch.
The makers of Louisville Slugger misrepresented to the end user and to the general public that the bat in question was safe for use in competitive baseball games, the suit argues.
The plaintiff also is seeking actual damages in an amount to be determined during the trial.

The alleged assault of the borough teenager came to light the morning of Oct. 6, when the teen called police to report that a black woman pulled him into a house on South Second Street and had sex with him, according to the affidavit of probable cause.Rosario was booked into custody at the Delaware County Prison with bail set at $50,000.
The teenager described the woman as a heavy-set black woman wearing blue jeans and a white tank top, the affidavit states. As he left the house after the incident, he grabbed the suspect’s cell phone and called his mother, police said.
The alleged victim told the responding officer that the woman, known to him as “Marcella,” performed oral sex then had intercourse with him, according to the affidavit.
Prosecutors said the boys were 14 to 16 years old when they had sex with the middle school science teacher. Two of them were her former students.Jones will also be required to register as a sex offender on probation for 15 years upon release from prison.
Jones had faced a possible life sentence, but Circuit Judge Donald Jacobsen said he was willing to impose a lesser sentence because the four boys were willing participants.
Assistant State Attorney Mark Levine accused Jones of taking advantage of the teenagers, who ranged in age from 14 to 16 years old.A lawyer representing three of the teens filed a notice of intent to sue the school system. Jones faces possible life in prison when sentenced. The date of sentencing is unknown.
Two of the teens were her former students, while she met the other two through them. None of the boys were her students at the time of the incidents.
Jones had sex with them multiple times on different occasions throughout the summer of 2007, Levine said. Jones would pick them up and drive them to her home on Oakview Avenue, Levine said.
The teens gave detectives detailed descriptions of the layout and items within her home, he said. The four teenagers testified Wednesday about visiting Jones for consensual sex. [...]
One teen told jurors he slept with Jones on as many as five different occasions. Some said they were present as she had sex with another one of them. Two teenagers, who are brothers, testified they both got into bed with Jones and took turns having sex with her.
One teenager estimated that he had sex with Jones at least eight times during one encounter with her. Another teenager said Jones offered to take him to Tennessee with her, and they could live together. He said he grew tired of her contacting him, so he cut off the relationship.
Prosecutors say the sex began after Jones reconnected with two former students through online conversations using MySpace, a social networking site. Jones referred to herself as "momma" on her MySpace postings, according to arrest reports.
Christina Miracle, 35, pleaded guilty earlier this month on the eve of her trial in Madison Circuit Court to third-degree rape for having sex with the boy at her Richmond apartment in the summer of 2007, said Madison County Commonwealth’s Attorney David Smith.A status hearing is scheduled for November 20 in Garrard Circuit Court.
The crime is a Class D felony, punishable by one to five years in prison. Smith will recommend Miracle serve a year in jail at her formal sentencing, scheduled for Dec. 10 before Judge Jean Logue.
“I finally said ‘enough.” We’re either going to have a trial or a guilty plea,” Smith said of the oft-delayed case.
It is not clear how the outcome of Miracle’s case in Madison County will impact her case in Garrard Circuit Court, where she is charged with five counts of third-degree rape involving the same boy in August and September of 2007.
Goebel got a little sympathy from the judge who said he didn't see her as a predator, but more as a woman whose predicament -- being in an awful marriage -- probably led to her "foolish" behavior.Goebel expressed regrets, however, she continued to maintain that she didn't have sex with the boy.
Goebel testified that she never had sex with the boy, but admitted the relationship was inappropriate because she was an "adult and a mother."The jury likely placed considerable importance on the taped conversation, asking to rehear it during deliberations.
She blamed her former husband with bringing false allegations against her after he found a series of pictures of the teen in her drawer, including ones with him in her bedroom and shower.
Jurors heard a taped conversation of Goebel and the boy during which she advised him that he could tell police about being at her house but also to "just don't say that part." Also, she asked him if he had changed his sheets "since then."
Goebel sobbed and sat bent over at the defense table after the jury of six men and six women delivered its verdict in a packed courtroom. A county sheriff's officer who is an EMT was summoned to the courtroom.Sentencing is scheduled for October 18 when Goebel faces five to 10 years in state prison.
Officers had to help Goebel walk from the courtroom. She cried loudly and seemed to have trouble breathing as she was handcuffed and taken into custody.
Goebel's husband called police on Jan. 24 after he found evidence that led him to suspect she was having "inappropriate relations" with a student.Goebel was booked into custody at a minimum security women's facility in Pemberton Township with bail set at $75,000.
The student attended school where Goebel worked.
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said that in order to maintain the anonymity of the victim, they would not release the name of the school or the victim's gender, age, and hometown. None of the assaults occured on school property, authorities said.
A US Department of Justice spokesperson announced this morning that an arrest had been made in the Boston area in a terrorism related investigation. According to federal prosecutors a 27-year-old man, Terek Mehanna, from Sudbury, Mass. has been arrested for planning terror attacks inside and outside the United States.
One plot apparently involved using automatic weapons to open fire at shoppers and emergency responders in shopping malls.

She’s charged with one count of improper relationship between educator/student.Dickison was booked into custody with bond set at $15,000.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the sheriff's office received a complaint against Dickison on Sept. 18, just days after Dickison resigned from the Lometa ISD.
The affidavit says the complaint was regarding, "allegations of a Lometa Independent School District teacher having sexual intercourse with a student who was enrolled in the district during the time that the sexual intercourse was occurring."
"Silvio Berlusconi's cutting remark about a female rival's lack of beauty has stirred a rare public backlash from thousands of Italian women who had largely kept silent about the Prime Minister's womanising and sex scandals. About 97,000 Italian women have signed the "Women offended by the premier" appeal after Berlusconi told the matronly, bespectacled leftist Rosy Bindi [below] that she was "more beautiful than intelligent" in a swipe at both her looks and brains...![]()
Still, pollsters say that without a credible political rival to challenge him, the feminist backlash will do little to lower Berlusconi's support among conservative women voters - even if they may be less enthusiastic about him than before.
"Berlusconi has not changed his approach to women and it's not the first time he has made such comments about women," said Maurizio Pessato of the SWG polling group. "It's likely that some of the women already against him were spurred into action since the remark was so harsh, but others are used to this. We're in the phase where those supporting him continue to do so, and those against him are markedly so."
Another pollster, Luigi Crespi, said some female Berlusconi supporters may be disillusioned, but not enough to switch sides. In a country where few batted an eyelid when former showgirl Mara Carfagna [below] became equality minister and scantily-clad women are the mainstay on TV, especially channels owned by Berlusconi, his comments on women have so far triggered little outrage...A slightly different picture of Signorina Carfagna here

For his part, Berlusconi has offered a half-hearted apology and brushed it off as a "joke" in a "moment of disappointment", prompting Bindi to say he had only aggravated the situation.

Williams said the attack has left her with panic attacks and told the court she wanted Thornton and her daughter to pay for what they did.Georgia Thornton apologized in court to Williams, saying the incident shouldn't have happened. The daughter, Sequita Thornton, now 19, faces battery charges also and has requested a jury trial. Jury selection is expected to commence shortly.
“I was kicked, scratched, hit, punched and some of my hair was pulled out of my scalp,” said Williams.
On the day of the attack, Williams said the pair walked into her classroom during first period and began arguing about a book. Williams asked them to leave, but the mother pushed past her and grabbed a book off her desk, the teacher said.
When Williams, 40, tried to get the book back, the mother pulled the teacher's hair and threw her to the ground, the police report said. Then the mother and daughter stomped on the teacher, according to the report.
"She was swinging me by my hair, and my shoes flew off my feet," Williams said. "Then I was on the ground, and they were both pounding on me. I was terrified. So were my students."
Georgia Thornton disputed the facts in the police report Tuesday and said Williams hit her daughter on the day of the incident. Thornton said she had been meeting with Williams because the teacher wouldn't give her daughter the correct grade.Wow. Georgia Thornton is a thug and she is teaching her daughter to be the same.
"That teacher, she had it in for my daughter," Thornton said. "I raised my daughter not to disrespect adults, so I took care of this situation. Yes, I hit her. I do what I have to do to protect my child at all costs."
She will serve 18 months in prison on two bail-jumping charges, followed by two years on extended supervision. The status of the two offspring has not been reported. Nevertheless, I suspect that Lacy Sommers' name will pop up in future news. She seemingly can't stay out of trouble.
Gage also sentenced the 20-year-old to six years of incarceration and six years of extended supervision on a count of repeated sexual assault of a child.
That sentence was stayed. Instead of prison, Sommers will serve 10 years on probation and an additional year in jail after she's released from the bail-jumping prison sentence.
The plea deal wraps up three separate cases. Sommers initially was charged in October with repeated sexual assault of a child after she became pregnant by the New London boy and gave birth to a son.Sentencing has been scheduled for October 19.
She was arrested April 30 and charged with bail jumping for violating her bond because authorities said she had ongoing contact with the boy, now 14.
She then admitted she was 20 weeks pregnant by the same father and was subsequently charged with new bail-jumping and sexual assault charges.
She was arrested again May 1 on charges of repeated sexual assault of a child and bail jumping involving contact with the boy, who lives in New London.Sommers has a court appearance scheduled for July 28.
"What we have to do is we have to protect the victim in this case, that's what our job is," said Sergeant Eugene Bunnell of the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department.
According to court documents the boy knew Lacy Sommers because she lived with his family. The boy told police he got along well with Sommers and they began dating in September of 2007.
Investigators say Sommers told them "She knew she was not supposed to have contact" with the boy. However, she said, "She loves him."
According to the complaint, the boy's mother knew about the relationship, but she told investigators, "She did not do anything to prevent the contact."
Bunnell won't say if the boy's mother will be investigated for not reporting the contact to police.
