 Kucinich Opposing Nuclear Plant Restart

Science Writer John Mangels writes in this Cleveland Plain Dealer story about Representative Kucinich's latest efforts to prevent restart of the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant.

The congressman contends in a letter to NRC Executive Director William Travers that the plant should not be allowed to restart until a criminal investigation is completed regarding whether the utility intentionally misled the agency. The NRC has yet to respond to Kucinich's latest letter.

I refer to it as his latest letter because the congressman has spearheaded an effort to have Davis-Besse completely closed down. It's not difficult to understand why Kucinich is a darling of the radical environmental crowd, placing right behind Ralph Nader as the favorite in a recent Green Party poll of its members.

As I see it, Kucinich has little chance of being the Democratic Party nominee for president in 2004, but don't be surprised if he appears on the ballot as the Green Party nominee if Mr. Nader decides not to run.
