 Ohio's Odd Fireworks Laws

As a resident of the Buckeye State, I can go out locally and purchase just about any loud and brilliant fireworks I want to light up the Fourth of July sky. That is, the sky over any place but the State of Ohio. That's right, you can buy the really great fireworks in Ohio, but you must then leave the state.

Matt Pera explains the odd Ohio laws in the 7/3/03 edition of The Courier of Findlay, Ohio. And, it's true that if I buy those loud and brilliant fireworks, the law requires that I get out of the state within 48 hours. If I don't comply, I'm guilty of a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $1,000 and/or six months in jail.
