The True Birthplace of Aviation
According to James Hannah reporting in The Cleveland Plain Dealer, the rivalry between North Carolina and Ohio continues even though the US Congress passed a resolution last month naming Dayton the birthplace of aviation. Both states, however, will be well represented at celebrations planned this year commemorating the 1903 first flight by the Wright Brothers.
The states have sparred for decades with Ohio claiming that the brothers invented, developed and tested their airplanes in Dayton and North Carolina claiming that they have wind which lifted the first airplane.
It seems to me that Ohio has a stronger case. Many places have wind which didn't really have anything to do with the technology produced by the Wright Bros.
