(Columbus, Ohio) The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio has claimed that the state is in violation of the law governing executions in a suit filed last week. The specific concern is that witnesses are unable to see when the needle containing the lethal chemicals is inserted into the inmate.
"What is at issue here is public access to what, in the end, is a public proceeding," said Raymond Vasvari, ACLU of Ohio legal director. "If the state intends to put men to death, they have an obligation to do so in the light of day."I'm no legal expert, but it sure seems the ACLU is making a big deal over nothing. If the inmate ends up dead, what difference does it make whether a witness saw the needle go in or not?
