Killington Votes to Secede From Vermont
This story should be filed under "Be careful what you vote for, you might get it." For background, Killington, Vermont, is a winter resort community populated by about a thousand wealthy individuals who endear themselves to typical East Coast liberalism. They consistently vote for the ideals of tax-the-rich, universal-health/child/pet/energy-care, and hug-the-tree/save-the-whale politicians to state and federal offices. In fact, Vermont citizens go further than other states in this regard by repeatedly electing an avowed socialist into office, Congressman Bernie Sanders.
Well, by electing politicians with the mandate to redistribute wealth, a fundamental premise of liberalism, they should have expected it to occur. However, the residents of Killington apparently didn't think that far. They are enraged that the generous tax-the-rich amount they pay in taxes is going to communities other than Killington. So enraged that, by an overwhelming majority, they voted in a town meeting to secede from Vermont and become a part of New Hampshire instead.
The vote to secede is considered by most to be nothing more than symbolic. Lawmakers in both states would have to concur and the chance of that happening is viewed as small. And, even if they are successful in becoming part of New Hampshire, there's no guarantee that the liberal politicians in that state won't follow suit in their goal to redistribute wealth.
So, suck it up, Killington. You got what you wished for. By the way, there's more to come as long as you keep voting liberals into office.
