Bush Acceptance Speech

With time devoted to keeping up on Russian terrorism and Hurricane Frances, I've neglected spending some moments on President Bush's speech last night. My take is edginess about all the domestic spending and spending promises. He's already obligated a significant bankroll for a prescription drug entitlement and he promises more health care spending. All the while, I'm exceedingly uncomfortable that the borders of the United States are nothing more than speed bumps. Bush has also been hinting that he'll bend over for the eco-crowd and that, frankly, scares the hell out of me.

With regard to national security, I think the Bush administration is doing a good job. Until the Muslims can produce the Islamic equivalent of a Martin Luther or a Mahatma Ghandi to reform their belief system, force will need to be applied externally and that's what is being done. One aspect of Bush's foreign policy that can't be ignored is the fact that American military forces are operating out of bases in quite a few Central Asian countries. These bases provide significant strategic, intelligence, and logistical options in the region. Enhancing the ability of the American military to project power is always in the best interests of the United States, democracy, and freedom.

Also offering a critical look at Bush's speech is Sean Hackbarth at The American Mind. Worth a visit. And be sure to check out the RNC Bloggers for more detailed, up-close-and-personal, commentary. Spoons, by the way, has a few words of commentary on Kerry's late-night rebuttal of the Bush speech. You'll love it.
