Why is it not surprising that CBS producer Mary Mapes told Joe Lockhart, a trusted John Kerry campaign advisor, to call Bill Burkett, the alleged forged document supplier. It's almost like CBS is an extension of the Kerry campaign. Should collusion be suspected? If not, how does one explain the cozy relationship between a major news organization and the John Kerry campaign team?
Interesting, yes, but not as interesting as some information Spoons has found. It's the transcript of a telephone conversation between Mary Mapes and Joe Lockhart and the source is unimpeachable. Follow the link and take a look.

WizbangIt seems like Bill Burkett's cluster caucus also includes USA Today, Howard Dean, and maybe others.

[Update 9/21/04, 6:50am EDT] Well, well, check this out. Bill Burkett now says that he may be the patsy in the whole forged document mess. He maintains that he didn't forge any documents, he only turned them over to CBS after getting them from a woman named Lucy Ramirez. No information on Lucy Ramirez as yet and, based upon Bill Burkett's distant relationship with the truth, it wouldn't be surprising if she were fictional.
Of course, none of this new information does anything to take the heat off of Dan Rather and CBS. I'm waiting for someone to be fired. (via Spoons)
