So far, Microsoft has had no luck staying ahead of the threats. The company plugs one hole or advises customers to take a certain measure, and the hackers find four ways around it. It's the software equivalent of trying to get rid of cockroaches.
Since I work with a Mac, I don't experience the problems and I can only imagine the frustration of those that are infected. It seems Microsoft has a challenge of great proportion. Interestingly, the best way to get rid of roaches is to have everyone leave and set off a bomb.
