According to the Korean-language Chosun Ilbo, whether intentional or not, the failure of President Bush's acceptance speech to acknowledge the contribution of South Korea as a member of the Coalition Forces has caused consternation. The President made mention of Japan and Australia but overlooked South Korea. In the words of Korea blogger Oranckay:
"It was wrong whether omitted by intention or simply forgotten. We might find out in the coming days if the White House notices the mistake and has him slip in quick mention in a speech somewhere in the coming days. Perhaps Bush could invite [President] Roh to the ranch sometime?"My take is that presidential speeches are customarily vetted up the wazoo so, if some group or country was offended, quite possibly it was intended. However, I don't discount the likelihood of a screwup and, if so, the situation with overlooking South Korea's commitment is easily correctable. We'll just have to wait and see if anything is done.
