(Banja Luka, Bosnia-Herzegovina) Dressed as NATO Peacekeepers, five robbers stole over a million euros on the eve of the transfer of responsibilities from NATO to European Union Peacekeepers.
"Five unknown perpetrators dressed in NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) uniforms stopped an armoured vehicle transporting Raiffeisen Bank's money to the central Bosnian treasury and stole the equivalent of $1.81 million," police spokesman Rade Mutic said. The NATO 7,000 member peacekeeping force will be relieved by the EU 25-nation coalition force as of tonight. NATO has been doing the job for nine years.
He said that the 'soldiers' had built a checkpoint in the village of Ljubacevo and had flagged down the bank's vehicle, claiming to be peacekeepers. They then stole the money, locking guards inside the vehicle.
"Police were investigating the incident," Mr. Mutic said.
I personally think that this was a candy-from-a-baby heist which was probably greased from the inside.
