Catholic Archbishop Kidnapped in Mosul

Terrorists kidnapped Archbishop Basil George Casmoussa, 66, leader of the city's Syrian Catholic community about 5pm local time today (9am EST).

The monsignor was taken outside his home (Turkish Press report) or his church (BBC report) and tossed into the trunk of a car before it sped away. The Vatican was notified and spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls said the Pope "condemns in the firmest manner this terrorist act and demands that Monsignor Casmoussa be rapidly returned safe and well to his ministry."

It's unclear who committed the abduction but the Army of Ansar al-Sunnah is suspected since it usually is responsible for terrorists acts in the Mosul area. (via The Jawa Report)
