Zarqawi Declares War On Elections

In an audio tape posted on an Islamist website, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has declared war on the Iraqi elections stating they are a "wicked trap aimed at putting the Rafidha [pejorative term for Shiites] in the seat of power in Iraq."

It's the second audio tape attributed to Zarqawi in three days with claims that the Sunni sect will be virtually eliminated if the Shiites are able to take power through elections. He also claims that 4 million Shiites traveling from Iran will take part in the voting. If this contention is true, it's certain to be noticed.

Oddly, there continue to be rumors that Zarqawi has been captured at the same time that the unauthenticated Zarqawi audio tapes are being posted on the Internet. Obviously, there's more to the story.

[Update 1800 EST] Digger's analysis of the release of the Zarqawi tapes is worth noting. Most interesting is the contention, which I agree with, that Zarqawi wants to shut down the rumors of his capture. Go visit.

Also, the declaration of war by Zarqawi is hardly news. As Chad Evans ably explains, Zarqawi's latest unauthenticated tape is nothing more than a restatement of common knowledge.

Hyscience remarks that it's "more of the same from the MSM, especially the Arab press." Well put.
