Probation for Lying on Resume

(Spring Branch, Texas) Based upon his resume, Mike Maloney was hired in 2002 by the Spring Branch Independent School District as an associate superintendent of facilities. After a couple years of employment with questions raised regarding his job performance, somebody decided to verify his education. It was found that he lied. Maloney's claim that he had bachelor's and master's degrees from Cal Southern University was fiction. There is no such university.

Last week, Maloney pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for lying on his resume and was sentenced by Harris County Judge James Anderson to a year of probation with deferred adjudication, community service, and a fine of $750. By the way, Maloney resigned his position.

How often do organizations hire people without verifying education and experience? My guess is quite often.
