Notch One for The Jawa Report
I suspect it may have occurred but, to my direct knowledge, no terrorist has ever been arrested due to a blog, that is, with the exception of The Jawa Report. Dr. Rusty Shackleford gets credit for helping lead the FBI to apprehending a terrorist who made the mistake of commenting on a post in The Jawa Report. Also, based on recent history, the MSM hasn't pointed the FBI to a terrorist, not once, so Rusty has set a precedent.
Rusty sketches some details of the situation in a post and promises to explain the whole story once authorization is given to do so. In any event, applause and congratulations are due to Rusty and all others involved.
Of course, we are all aware that information leading to the capture and prosecution of a terrorist is customarily rewarded by payment of outrageous sums of money by the U.S. government. In the case of bin Laden and Zarqawi, I believe the sum is $25 million each.
Now, I don't know where this character caught by Rusty sits on the reward scale but, for the sake of argument, let's say he's worth $1,000,000. The way I figure it, after Glenn Reynolds skims his Godfather cut (he automatically gets the most of everything in the blogosphere), Rusty will probably be left with about $200,000 for himself and distribution to collaborators and linkers. Assuming that he decides to recognize 100 collaborators and linkers and gives each $1,000, Rusty would be left with the handsome reward of $100,000 for himself and his family. And, he deserves it.
