'Illegitimate Children' To Be Taken Out of Illinois
(Springfield, Illinois) A proposal was approved by lawmakers last month to remove the words "illegitimate children" from Illinois laws concerning adoptions, divorces and inheritance, replacing the words with "child born out of wedlock." The measure awaits Gov. Blagojevich's signature.
The issue was raised by Adrienne Kahn of Wilmette who believes that calling an illegitimate child something besides illegitimate will benefit society. The lawmaking comes at a time when approximately 35% of Illinois newborns are bastards, a percentage that has steadily increased over the last five decades. Of course, this means that, given enough time, everyone in Illinois will be a bastard.
