Cops Forced to Take Taxis on Emergencies

I saw a movie where the police chief didn't have a driver's license and was forced to take a cab everywhere he went. That was art. Here's a case of reality following art.

From Aftenposten:
Police in Oksnes and Bo in Vesteralen, high up on Norway's northwest coast, have such equipment shortages that they have to call a taxi to respond to emergency calls.

Area police have had their fleet of vehicles trimmed from two to one due to budget cuts, and have repeatedly had to ring a taxi when needing another car to respond to a call ....
Fortunately, the mayor said he'll donate a sled for responding to calls in the winter. It seems that one may safely assume that there are no high-speed chases involving taxis and sleds.
