Katrina Recovery - St. Charles Parish

St. Charles Parish is well on the way to recovery with potable water available throughout, power restored in many areas, and a growing number of businesses now open. However, wastewater remains a problem.
CAUTION!
Minimize use of flushing toilets, washing machines, baths/showers, etc. unless absolutely necessary.

Remain diligent until full power is restored. Careless use will result in wastewater back up into homes and ditches.
As of late yesterday, businesses operating included:
- Exxon (Champions) in Boutte - Gas Only,
- Wal-Mart in Boutte,
- Winn Dixie,
- Hibernia in Boutte/Destrehan/Airline Hwy. Laplace,
- Greaud's in Norco,
- Franks's in Des Allemands.
The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Department is being assisted by 320 National Guardsmen from South Carolina. The Sheriff reports no looting has occurred.

The St. Charles Parish Public School system administration, faculty, and staff are being told to report to work at designated times over the next week. See schedule here.

The St. Charles Parish Hospital is providing 24-hour emergency services with outpatient, lab and X-ray services scheduled to open tomorrow. Elective surgeries are currently on hold.
