Environmentalist Gets Eight Years for Arson
(Seattle, Washington) A 23-year-old environmentalist, Christopher McIntosh, was sentenced Friday to eight years in federal prison for arson. McIntosh signed a plea agreement in September admitting responsibility for setting a fire in the McDonald's restaurant across from the Space Needle in Seattle. He claimed his action was on behalf of the Earth Liberation Front/Animal Liberation Front.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Zilly also imposed three years' supervised release, but did not require that McIntosh pay restitution for the damage caused, estimated at $5,000. McIntosh expressed no remorse at the sentencing and, according to prosecuting attorney Andrew Friedman, he remains "proud of his crime, and, given the chance, he would do the same thing again."
I suspect that eight years in a federal penitentiary might curb McIntosh's enthusiasm.
