Mount Soledad Cross Stays ... For Now
There's a new development in the enduring battle between the ACLU and the city of San Diego. Previously, U.S. District Judge Gordon Thompson ordered the cross removed or the city would face a $5,000 per day fine.
Today, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy granted a stay of Judge Thompson's order without comment pending further action from him or the entire court. Consequently, the battle over the cross, which was initiated by a single atheist and the ACLU, continues. What happens next is up to the Supreme Court.
