(Seattle, Washington) Even the Quakers realize that there is a limit to charity. For years, a homeless camp was welcomed on Quaker property in the University District of the city. Not anymore.
From Seattle Times:
Quakers bearing coffee, doughnuts and bagels told those still around the building on Ninth Avenue Northeast and Northeast 40th Street to leave -- for good. They posted notices that Seattle police would be patrolling the area and that trespassers would be prosecuted. The Quakers finally saw the danger of appeasing vagrants, many of whom are substance abusers. Children in a preschool on the same property were considered particularly at risk.
