Teacher Arrested for Child Porn

(Mansfield, Ohio) A 27-year-old music teacher at Simpson Middle School, Kevin Iannetta, has been arrested by federal agents on child pornography charges. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency investigators allegedly found illegal material on Iannetta's home computer that had originated overseas.

Reportedly, there have been no accusations of misconduct by Iannetta nor has any inappropriate material been found on his school computer. Nevertheless, the school district placed him on unpaid leave.

It's not clear whether Iannetta is accused of simply possessing the child porn or possessing and distributing child porn. Either way, it's a federal offense. The case does seem to illustrate that downloading child porn from overseas to computers in the U.S. will likely be discovered by investigators.

I personally wonder if the public is clearly aware that involvement with any of the elements of child pornography is a serious crime. Surely, there are some individuals who ignorantly happy viewing and downloading illegal materials, content that they are not bothering anyone. Unfortunately for them, they are miserably wrong.

Regarding the illegality of child porn, Brent Curtis passes along the nugget that the California 9th Circuit Court recently ruled that images of child porn in temporary Internet files can be used as the basis for criminal prosecution. Consequently, it's possible that someone could end up in handcuffs for viewing child porn accidentally while surfing without actually downloading the images to a computer.
