Veil or Jail

(Tehran, Iran) Listen up, ladies, there's a new rule. Veil or jail. Take your pick. Chad Evans has the story.

According to Iranian Police Chief Gen. Ahmad Moghaddam:
"Women who do not wear the veil and don't abide by the Muslim dress code are tools of the enemy, who tries to destroy the system by spreading a cuture which goes against Islamic values," he said.

The general slammed recent criticism of a police measure which will become effective starting on 21 April under which women who do not respect the Islamic dress code will be arrested.
So, ladies, unless you want to be considered a tool of the enemy and sent to jail, you've got scant time left to veil up. April 21st is Saturday. But don't despair, try to look at the bright side and think of all the money you'll save by no longer needing to fard. Expensive cosmetics, plastic surgery and botox injections will be eliminated from your lives.

In unrelated news, Moghaddam stated that, contrary to Sharia and Iranian law, the consumption of illegally produced liquor in Iran is increasing.

[Update 04/23/07]

Arrests made and warnings issued for improper dress.
