(Mascoutah, Illinois) A 13-year-old 8th-grade student, Megan Coulter, was given two days school suspension for hugging two friends. Hugging is a public display of affection which violates school policy.
"I feel it is crazy," said Megan, who was to serve her second detention Tuesday after classes at Mascoutah Middle School.Unfortunately for Megan, school officials considered her actions to be in poor taste, reflecting poor judgment and brought discredit to the school. However, Megan's parents plan to ask that the school board more clearly define displays of affection.
"I was just giving them a hug goodbye for the weekend," she said.
Frankly, isn't it refreshing that the school's policy is to smite the wanton sinner and not allow slutty behavior to go unpunished? Without proper discipline, the offender would likely feel free to behave in more dangerous ways.
Hedonistic kissing and dancing and more would be next and the whole school could become infected with bumping and grinding bodies engaged in carnal unholiness. Not only that, but discouraging outward expressions of affection keeps insidious emotions locked inside a person's soul, safely protected from the temptations of the devil.
On the other hand, it might be a good idea for the school officials to pull the broomsticks clean out of their cabooses. In other words, lighten up.
