(Ghana, West Africa) Two American sailors attached to the USS Fort McHenry were found dead in a hotel room in Tema, Ghana, yesterday. The two were on shore leave.
The U.S. Navy and Ghana authorities are investigating and, thus far, there is "no evidence of foul play" according to a Navy official.
The USS Fort McHenry (LSD-43) is a dock landing ship with a 350-member crew attached to the Sixth Fleet. The ship is deployed in support of the Africa Partnership Station 2007.
According to Headquarters US European Command, Africa Partnership Station 2007 is a U.S. Naval Forces Europe-led initiative, executed by a multi-national staff aboard USS Fort McHenry and High Speed Vessel 2 Swift.The ship is halfway through a seven-month assignment to assist in security and drug smuggling interdiction efforts by West African nations.
