College Boots Slackers From Dorm

(Long Island, New York) Scores of students have been booted from campus dorms at SUNY Old Westbury because they failed to maintain a "C" average (2.0 grade point average). Needless to say, the 87 residential students are puckered.
The policy has been blasted by faculty and students, but an administrator said Friday that the rule -- which he described as an effort to raise academic standards -- would continue.

"Our goal is to have students with us who are serious about their studies," said Michael Kinane, assistant to the president.
Naturally, there's griping but college students can find reasons to gripe when things are generally wonderful. Personally, I think the policy is justified. Anything that will encourage students to hit the books is good.
