(Moscow, Russia) What a shock! The Russians, having just fell off the turnip truck, are suspicious of Iran's intentions after a suborbital rocket, called the Kavoshgar I, was successfully launched from the Islamic Republic's first space base.
Russia said on Wednesday that Iran's test launch of a rocket raised "suspicion" about the real nature of Teheran's nuclear programme, Interfax news agency quoted a Foreign Ministry official as saying. One of these days, it's going to dawn on the Russians that they are infidels too.
Iran launched a rocket on Monday designed to carry its first locally-made research satellite next year, showing the country’s advances in ballistics at a time when Western powers are already jittery about its nuclear plans.
"Any movement in terms of creating such a potential weapon naturally worries us and others. All the more so since it creates suspicion towards Iran about its possible desire to create a nuclear weapon," Interfax quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov as saying.
"Rockets of such range are one of the components of such a weapons system. Of course this raises concern," he said.
