Teacher Sentenced for Sex with Boy

(Eugene, Oregon) Sarah Jayne Bridges, 24, pleaded guilty to felony rape and sodomy stemming from engaging in sex on at least two occasions with a middle school boy who now is 15 years old.

As a result, the judge sentenced Bridges to five years' probation and $1,000 in assessments. Additionally,

The judge ordered Bridges to undergo sex-offender treatment and refrain from having any contact with minors without the permission of her probation officer.

She is also required to provide a DNA sample, register as a sex-offender and submit to polygraph examination upon the request of her probation officer.

She was ordered to serve a total of 60 days in jail, a sentence likely to be reduced to fewer than ten days because of jail overcrowding, according to the district attorney's office.

Bridges was reported to be remorseful at sentencing, apologizing for violating her victim's parents' trust.

I'd guess that Bridges' teaching career is over at the ripe age of 24.

Oregon Teacher and Middle School Boy

(Eugene, Oregon) A 24-year-old substitute teacher for the Eugene School District, Sarah Jayne Bridges, was arrested last evening for allegedly sexually abusing a middle school boy. A complaint to the school district indicated that the offenses occurred in March.

Bridges was booked into custody at the Lane County Jail on charges of alleged rape, sodomy and sexual abuse.

According to a school district press release:

A complaint was made by Eugene School District 4J to the Eugene Police Department on Friday morning alleging Bridges, 24, had sexual activity with a male student. The complaint alleged Bridges had the encounter in March of 2008, with her former student, who is currently in middle school. The alleged activity occurred off campus.

Bridges has been a substitute teacher in the Eugene School District since September 2006. She may have substituted in other districts as well. She taught 66 days in 4J schools in 2006-07, and has taught a total of 85.5 days in 4J this school year.

Bridges teaching privileges have been suspended.
