(Baltimore, Maryland) In August 2007, a 27-year-old Jordanian national, Iyad Dogmosh, pleaded guilty to trafficking in fake Viagra tablets imported from Egypt.
As part of his plea agreement, Dogmosh admitted that he kept a suitcase containing more than 36,000 fake Viagra tablets at a storage facility in Glen Burnie. Investigators seized the case during a search last year. He also admitted selling 2,000 pills in 2006.Yesterday, Dogmosh was sentenced to four years in federal prison. Upon release, it's expected that he will be deported.
Prosecutors said the federal Food and Drug Administration tested the pills and found that while they were the same size, shape and color as real Viagra, they lacked a key ingredient, sildenafil citrate. They did, however, contain metronidazole, an antibiotic that when combined with alcohol can cause abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting and headaches.
