(Louisville, Colorado) In March 2007, a 38-year-old local woman, Irene Marie Gomez, was arrested for allegedly engaging in a long-term sexual relationship with a young boy which produced two children.
This week, Gomez, now 39, pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and attempted sex assault in accordance with a plea agreement.
District Judge James Klein then sentenced Gomez to 20 years of probation.
According to prosecutor Amy Okubo, Gomez benefits from gender bias.
"I don't think there's any question that (if the gender roles were reversed) we'd be talking about a prison sentence here," Okubo said.A guy would probably be sent to prison for 20 years, not probation.
