Rebecca Bargy Gets 18 Months in Sex Death - Updated

(Columbia, Tennessee) For tying up husband James Bargy, 29, and leaving him gagged and blindfolded for 20 hours, resulting in his suffocation and death, while she was engaging in sex with a man she met over the Internet, 26-year-old Rebecca Bargy was sentenced by a judge today to 18 months in jail.

Rebecca Bargy's 18 months of punishment for criminally negligent homicide will be served in the Maury County Jail. Reportedly, the maximum possible sentence for the crime is only two years in prison. It's not known if a term of probation, as is customary upon release, was ordered.

I suggest that the Bargy case is troubling to many people since she was not only negligent, she was negligent in a cruel way. All the family and friends of James Bargy will have to live with thoughts of how Rebecca was having an adulterous affair with a stranger for 20 hours while she negligently allowed her husband to suffocate to death. So much for love, honor and cherish, eh?

I would also suggest that if Bargy had blindfolded, gagged and bound her cat or dog for 20 hours and death occurred, she would have been prosecuted for felony animal cruelty and potentially would have received more than 18 months of prison time.

Wife Convicted in Sex Ritual Death - Updated
[Previous 5/22/09 post]
(Columbia, Tennessee) Sex and bondage ritualist, Rebecca Bargy, was convicted Wednesday by a Maury County jury of criminally negligent homicide in the death of her husband, James Bargy.

She was found not guilty of murder. The jury deliberated for only three and one-half hours.
The jury's verdict means Rebecca Bargy will face a maximum of one to two years in prison. There is also a chance she could be given probation.

"I don't think she meant to kill him, but she definitely should have had to pay for what she did," said victim's mother Donna Bargy.

After the verdict Rebecca Bargy would not talk to reporters, but during the trial she described returning home and finding her husband's body.

"I saw him in the hallway, and I ran down there. I got to untie him one knot and he was so cold," said Rebecca Bargy.

The victim's family was struggling with the fact their loved one is gone, and Rebecca Bargy might avoid a jail sentence.
Bargy is free on bond until sentencing, anticipated to occur next month.

Murder Charged in Alleged Sex Ritual Death
[Previous 8/6/08 post]
(Columbia, Tennessee) In April 2008, 25-year-old Rebecca Bargy was charged with reckless homicide for the reported sex ritual death of her husband, James Bargy.
According to the arrest warrant, 25-year-old Rebecca Bargy placed duct tape over James Bargy's mouth and eyes, put a ball gag in his mouth and then tied a bandage around his head, leaving only his nostrils showing.

She also tied his hands and legs behind his back.
Now, I naturally interpret that a sex ritual encompasses some kind of enjoyment -- you know, like sex -- instead of just being tied up and gagged. So, where's the sex part?

Well, it turns out that the sex part happened when Rebecca Bargy left her husband bound and gagged and went to a motel, met a man and had continuous sex with him for nearly an entire calendar day. That's the sex part. He gets tied up, she has sex. Some ritual, eh?

After 20 hours, Rebecca returned and, unfortunately, found James dead. Presumably, he wasn't supposed to die. Rather, on Rebecca's return he was likely supposed to be told the enjoyable details of the sex part of the sex ritual -- I guess. Hell, I don't know. None of this sex ritual makes a lick of sense to me.

In any event, after James was found, authorities were notified and Maury County Sheriff's deputies arrested Rebecca for reckless homicide.

Fast forward to this week. From NewsChannel5:
The woman accused in the bizarre bondage death of her husband was in court Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday prosecutors officially upgraded the criminal charge against Rebecca Bargy from reckless homicide to second degree murder. Rebecca pleaded not guilty.
In Bargy's defense, it's claimed that the death was accidental.
