Idaho School Aide Gets No Jail in Sex Case - Updated

(Canyon County, Idaho) Former Caldwell School District teaching assistant Meagan Belnap pleaded guilty and was sentenced on three counts of felony injury to a child for inappropriate touching and simulating a sexual act.
Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak said Belnap's psycho-sexual evaluation indicated she is at a low risk to reoffend and that she is not a violent sexual predator or sexual deviant.

"Basically what she did was put an ice cream cone on her lap and have the students come up and lick it. So we're not talking about inappropriate fondling under the clothes or actual intercourse," Bujak said. "It's this ice cream cone activity, and then she was playing a game called 'butt tag' where she was running around slapping students on their rear ends."
Yesterday, Belnap appeared in court and received probation for the convictions. A 10-year prison sentence was suspended as was a 150-day jail sentence.

However, she was ordered to pay restitution of $900, undergo mental health counseling and complete 100 hours of community service. Belnap will not have to register as a sex offender.

It appears that Belnap's probation will be for a fixed period of three years.
