Mom Accused of Trying to Sell Baby for Drugs

(Augusta, Georgia) An Augusta mother, Amanda Johnson, and her boyfriend and reported baby's father, Michael Jenkins, were arrested by Georgia investigators this week for allegedly attempting to trade Johnson's seven-month-old baby to a drug dealer for crack cocaine.

The arrests were made on consecutive days at the Augusta Lodge Motel on Gordon Highway.

Richmond County, Georgia investigators say the woman and the child's father were living in a motel in Augusta. They say several people were in the room smoking crack, and that the baby was in the room.

At some point, investigators say Johnson offered to sell the baby for more of the drug.

One of the people in the room contacted an outside party, who then contacted police.
Both Johnson and Jenkins have been charged with cruelty to children and reckless conduct. Logically, one might expect more charges since illegal drugs were being consumed in the motel room.

Some of Augusta's Gordon Highway motels have been identified as havens for prostitution and drugs and law enforcers are trying to police the area since many law-abiding citizens live at the extended-stay motels. Interestingly, Amanda Johnson has been reported to be a known prostitute.
