In March 2006, after administering a premeditated shotgun blast to the back of her sleeping husband, Mary Winkler fled with her three children and was arrested days later in another state. After claiming, without proof or corroboration, that her husband Matthew abused her, Mary Winkler was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.
Give or take a few days, she served five months behind bars and was freed.
Last week, Mary Winkler was granted full custody of her children. More here.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean are in federal prison doing more than a decade each for wounding a drug smuggler while doing their jobs. Winkler got five months and custody of her kids for the cold-blooded execution of her sleeping husband.
Also for comparison, Kristen Rene Santoya, a special education assistant at Camarillo High School in Oxnard, CA, got six months behind bars for stealing students' lunch money. Winkler got five months and custody of her kids for the cold-blooded execution of her sleeping husband.
I could go on but you get the point. I believe that Mary Winkler got away with murder. It would be prudent for all her acquaintances to watch their backs. Testimony from executioners indicates that the first one is troubling but all the others come easily -- like getting olives out of a jar.
