PETA Protests Peruvian Cat-Eating

(Canete, Peru) This week, the annual two-day Gastronomical Festival of the Cat was held near Lima and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have expressed outrage.

Reportedly, local people consume hundreds of cats prepared several ways, including fried cat and catburgers, as a cure for bronchial disease and as an aphrodisiac.

A 63-year-old local woman with 17 children and 70 grandchildren told a Spanish TV station that she also credits cat meat for keeping her fertile.

A PETA staffer said, "The last thing we need to do is add yet another poor animal to the list of those being frightened and slaughtered for a taste." I would dispute the assertion since cats are not a new addition to the list of animals eaten by humans.
