Missouri Teacher Arrested for DUI

(Kansas City, Missouri) A 55-year-old fifth-grade teacher at Blackburn Elementary School, Kathy Moegle, was arrested about 1:30 PM Monday for allegedly driving while intoxicated and not possessing a valid driver's license.

Moegle's blood alcohol level was tested at 0.173, more than double the legal limit.
Moegle's case began Monday afternoon when the principal of Blackburn Elementary School suspected a teacher of bringing alcohol to school.

The principal confronted Moegle and then notified the Independence police officer assigned to work the school, according to the officer's report.

The officer then told the principal to have someone pick Moegle up.

According to police reports, Moegle refused to call anyone and instead left the building.

That's when the officer spotted the teacher in the parking lot and began a pursuit.

The officer pulled the teacher over several blocks from the school.
Meanwhile, another officer was dispatched to the school to retrieve a gallon bottle of alcoholic margarita mix found by the principal.

Moegle was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a school district investigation.
